This explains why I have never seen The Exorcist, nor do I ever. My husband mentions once and a while that I should but I tell him I’m afraid it is too close to the truth and it’s something I don’t want to be exposed to.
Don’t see it. :nope: It’s absolute filth. I only saw like… 5 seconds of it, and it scared me so so bad I ran to my bed and threw my rosary around my neck. My heart was pounding really hard, and I was also breathing really hard.

Mama had said to my brother, “There’s a movie on called The Exorcist that you have no business watching. It’s a horrible movie.” When she said that, I thought, “No movie could be THAT bad,” because I grew up watching dopey William Castle horror movies. So I was up in my room, looked at the time and noticed it had been on for a while. I took my remote, put it on the channel, and they one a close-up of the priest in the movie. They, then, switched to the possessed girl, and she threw up nasty junk at him. I was TERRIFIED.

Because of that movie, I get a really weird feeling whenever someone mentions demonic possessions or whatever I read something about it (so I avoid reading about it. lol). My advice? Don’t watch it. Keep in mind that I was 12 when I saw that scene but Istill think it’d scare me if I watched it now.

It’s funny that you mention your mother told your brother he had no business watching that movie.

It reminds me of an incident where I was around 10 or so and some maker of board games started advertising the sale of ouija boards. They made it seem innocent enough  .
I never gave it serious thought to try it because it didn’t look all THAT interesting till a friend or 2 at school mentioned how they were suppose to be real bad.

One night I asked my dad what exactly was a ouija board. I will never for as long as I live forget the look on his face when I finished that sentence.
He looked me dead in the eye with the most serious look, a look that could kill mind you, and said, “I don’t want you EVER touching one of those. Don’t EVER speak of it in this house and don’t so much as THINK of bringing one into this house.”

I said, “But…”
I just wanted to ask why he was getting so worked up. I just asked a simple question but I couldn’t even get that out.
Well that was the end of that conversation. That look of death was enough to scare the daylights out of me and I never brought it up again. Got invited even to use one but I said I was busy at the time. ehehe

My fiancee has forbidden me to touch an ouija board as well. He hates them, actually, he’s terrified of them. Sometimes I wonder though, how bad they can be, when they are made by parker bros.

I was at a sleepover once when I was 12 at a friends house. We were in her bedroom, there was 3 other girls. They pulled out the ouija board, and i admit, i used it, but it never worked when i was. So my friends used it and i watched. I was watching to see if they were moving the crystal bowl (they lost the pointer) and then all of a sudden the crystal bowl shattered, the house creaked, and a huge gust of wind went through the room and blew out all the candles, leaving us in darkeness. Needless to say, we burnt the thing that night and never touched one again.

As for the Exorcist movies, I’ve seen all three, and they never scared me that much (the 3rd on did when a possessed mental patient crawled on the ceiling and stuffed a nurse with rosaries). My fiance refuses to watch them too, the thought scares him!

IMO, a soul in Purgatory could appear to someone, but wouldn’t they mostly be asking for prayers???

One personal experience, then my .02:
A few months ago, maybe January, I was laying in bed, sleeping, and I heard a low male voice. It woke me up. I thought it was probably just my imagination, but it kept making a noise, not really saying words. It was loud, like I had headphones on. At first I thought the clock radio had gone off, but it hadn’t. I thought maybe someone had gotten into the house, so I looked over at my husband, thinking it would have woken him up, but he was still asleep. My daughter, who was 1 at the time, slept in our bed, and she was also still sleeping, though she usually wakes up at any noise. It was starting to creep me out, so in my mind I commanded it to pray a Hail Mary with me. I started the prayer but the voice just kept repeating loudly, “Mary is the mother of Jesus. Mary is the mother of Jesus” but wouldn’t bless her. I figured this was not a good sign, so I mentally flew to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the voice cut off, like a plug being pulled from a radio. I stayed awake for another hour, praying.

I have never, ever heard a voice before or since, and I don’t care to. My opinion is that it was either an extremely vivid imagination or something evil. If Satan was trying to spook me, it worked, but actually it just gave me more confidence in the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Now, where’s that Holy Water bottle???

  1. *]re: Seeing spirits at night. My sister-in-laws, who comes from a very religious family (her Mom walks around the house during the day saying the rosary), says that when she was in college, she saw the Blessed Virgin Mary appear to her in the middle of the night and place her hand on her shoulder. She completely freaked out. Ran out of her bedroom and woke up the rest of the family who didn’t see anything.

Don’t know if it really happened or exactly what she saw but it definitely had a profound effect on her because even now that she is in her mid-forties (nearly a quarter of a century later) she sleeps with all of the lights on – not just a night light but ALL of the lights in EVERY room of the house is turned on at night.

Something else which is perplexing is that after this happened, she stopped going to church when previously she was a regular church go’er. I would have thought that after an encounter with the Blessed Virgin Mary (if that was indeed what happened) she would have become MORE of a church go’er.

*]re: ouija board. I worked with this one woman who said that while playing around with a ouija board, it spelled out the name of her future husband before she even met him. She also claims that while using is, she felt like she was more & more losing control of herself and even now that she no longer uses it any longer, she says that she still feels an evil streak inside of her where she suddenly has an uncontrollable desire to do something bad.

One day we went to lunch. She was driving. On the way back we were driving through a farming area and there were these two little kittens crossing the road. There were no other cars around in sight and there was plenty of room and plenty of time to avoid hitting them but instead, she purposely sped up aiming the car at them so that she would run them over.

That was one example of the uncontrollable evil streak that she claims is a result of playing around with the ouija board. Without getting too much into this, I’ve seen her do some pretty nasty things that were out of character.

Nooooooo. :crying: Not little kittens. Poor little things.

I think there are alot of different things clumped under the name ghost. Any thing that appears and scares the bejinkys out of you is a demon. Padre pio had actual fights with demons and the bruises to prove it. Not that God lets just anyone fight with them, so fear not! What we should all know is that if one of these filthy fellows show up we should rebuke it in The Name of Jesus!
A nun in purgatory showed herself to St. Faustina(read her diary!) All things are under the protection of Christ so be not afraid! And stay the heck away from all things occult, if your not sure ask “Catholic Answers”!

Invocation: Come, let us worship Jesus, -whose Heart was wounded for our sins!

I read once that when Padre Pio was being btohered by demons when he was lying in bed one night, the Virgin Mary appeared and put a pillow under his head. :crying: What a loving thing to do.

Several saints, as well as priests, have put forth the idea that some ghosts can be purgatorial in nature. Anne Catherine Emmerich thought so…Evil spirits is the other usual suspect. Human preternatural psychic powers are also not fully understood, and in conjunction with poltergeists they account for several acounts. Fr. Thurston, S.J. wrote a lot on this topic. His books include ‘Ghosts and Poltergeists’ and ‘The Church and Spiritualism’

I was speaking with a friend of mine and he was wondering if the Church has said anything about ghost sightings  and what they might be. Could they be souls in Purgatory, evil spirits attempting to fool us. Anyone have any church teaching on this?

Hello 3 years ago on a Saturday morning around July, I was sitting downstairs in the kitchen around 11.30 am with my wife.
My daughter Melissa then 16 came down the stairs from her bedroom and said daddy a glass in my room just smashed and no-one was near it, my son Ryan’s girlfriend Jayne 17 was in the room as well.
So I went up to investigate, and asked them had they been smoking and maybe dropped a hot cigerette in there and maybe that caused it, but the replied no !
The glass didn’t break completely the bottom just came off it, and I still have the glass here as proof, although anyone can break a glass and say it was supernatural.
I know high pitched music can break a glass but they wern’t playing music, well later that night it continued.
Around 10 that night my son Ryan was drinking and when he gets in that state it’s hard to awaken him, he was laying on the couch in the living-room fast asleep.
My nephew Shane was in the adjacent toilet as he had been drinking as well, when all of a sudden Ryan came in from the living-room looking shocked and saying “whats that banging up stairs” ?
Shane came into the kitchen and said he heard it too, but my son Stephen 13 and myself never heard a thing.
So I decided to go up stairs to see what was going on, armed with a bottle of holy water, but Stephen, Ryan, and Shane were terrified and said they wouldn’t dare go up, but they did follow behind me :bigyikes:
Anyway I blessed all the rooms with holy water, and the attic as well, then I phoned the priests house, Father Jim Moore answered, I told him what happened, he told me I had done all the right things, but to pray the Rosary as well.
Father Moore tole me that another priest was responsible for my area if I wanted the house blessed, I still have that to do but will wait until I get all the decorating done.
Shane told me to throw the glass out, but I explained to him that what ever broke the glass is long gone, so since I blessed the house with holy water I haven’t heard a thing. " praised be Jesus Christ" I heard someone say that there is trapped souls, but not sure of this, trapped between this world and the next.
As I say it’s not hard to break a glass and say it supernatural, but if you want to see it I can upload the picture.

Hi, interesting topic…Although I haven’t experienced anything much, my mom has been through a lot of experiences most likely from demons…She’s told me several of them, yet there’s still many that she wouldn’t even dare tell me about.

One story of hers that comes to mind happened when she was just a kid. One night, she was her sleep was disturbed by what sounded like a party going on in the living room, which was right by her room. It sounded like any regular party-laughing, chatting, etc. So, when she walked out of her room to see what was going on she found that the room was completely empty and fell silent as soon as she entered. The living room was empty-but standing across the room was her older brother who had heard the same noises. Actually, I’m sitting in the very same room my mom’s room once was, because I am at my grandparents’ house right now.

Another incident that happened in this house was when she came stopped by here while my grandparents were on vacation. It was late at night, and she needed to use the computer for a short while to pay some bills and such. So, just as she was opening the door, she stopped suddenly when she heard the sound of excited murmuring coming from within. She could distinctly hear two or three men having a conversation, but she couldn’t quite hear what they were saying. Then she opened the door fully, and the conversation stopped abruptly. No one was home, all of the televisions were off (my grandparents have one in almost every room), and she called out to see who was in here. There was no response, but wouldn’t it have been creepy if someone actually did respond?

We live in 150+ yr old house. We have a ghost that does most of his noise making during the day. Area rugs have quieted the foot step noises he used to make in the living room. Open interior doors occassionally sound like someone has slammed them shut.
My daughter used to see him and say he was talking to her. I told her to tell him that if he had anything to say to tell me, the Mom, and that he wasn’t to talk to her. So far so good on that front.
I figure this is just some element of physics. Energy that has been changed.
If I felt at all threatened by him I would see about getting him evicted.

I know that souls have appeared to the unparted from purgatory and this is not a ghost but a soul appearing by the will of God as a grace. The more secular idea of a ghost that manifests poltergeists and such is the energy of the unconscious mind obsessed with resolving issues that have accumulated throughout a person’s life. I’ve read of a Priest who is an exorcist who suggests that poltergeists are more frequent around troubled teenage girls because of the crisis of identity of that developemental stage of life being more emotionally intense coupled with the trauma or baggage that the unconscius mind of the teenager is trying to resolve can manifest externally as a poltergeist.
Ever notice that most ghost stories revolve around some trauma or issue that was never resolved? Well the unconscious is continually manifesting it’s need to resolve these issues in our life with our bodies and the idea is that it continues after we die minus a body to manifest from.

I believe that this doesn’t happen to someone in purgatory because the energy of the unconscious mind is a manifestation of death or seperation of body and soul.Remember Jesus was not unconscious of anything about what He did or why, nor did He accumulate unresolved emotional issues. A person in a state of Grace may experience that disordered energy on earth but a soul in purgatory is no longer subject to the law of death and unconscious unresolved issues have been resolved when that person’s particular soul was judged as opposed to the damned soul that will exist eternally with every issue left unresolved.

Oh, and I’ve also read of another Priest who thinks it’s more prevelent around troubled teenage boys…😛

Anyway that’s my take on it…😃

For me there are severe problems from a rational viewpoint about the coherence of a ghost as an entity. A ghost is supposed to be a non-material entity, yet a ghost supposedly has physical attributes such as being able to manipulate and move physical objects by force, being visible to the naked eye (which requires that a ghost emit material particles, photons, in the form of electromagnetic radiation, the realm of spectrum visible to the human eye), which the laws of physics only allow to occur for material objects. Yet a ghost can supposedly also do things impossible for material objects, such as move through solid substances (walls), and so on. How can an immaterial substance do these things? Shouldn’t an immaterial substance be invisible, non-corporeal and non-tangible? But how then could such an object or entity possibly then become an object of human sensory awareness?

There have been investigations into ghosts, but in my view the arguments of the skeptics against their existence, as well as the incoherence of the concept of a ghost itself, should put to rest any superstitions about them.

Until someone can come up with a rational and self-coherent notion of what a ghost is, and how a ghost can be detected and its existence verified using objective methods, my view is that of Ockham’s razor and to assume ghosts are more likely to be the creation of human imagination and superstition, rather than immaterial beings visiting us from some other world.

o_o Wow, that is both creepy and cool.

Creepy: the hospital ghost.
Cool: the grandparents and the mother.

Well, cool if they were like “What’s taking you so long? n_n” but creepy if they were saying it like “What’s taking you so long?!!! >:C”
There’s a hospice forum that has a thread on ghost stories. Some are probably just made up (some are very obvious) to tease others on the forum, but others talk about people who are about to die seeing loved ones. One was of a woman about to die who saw a black shadow in her room, and the hospice worker noticed a scared look on her face. Hospitals seem like an unlikely, but logical place for ghosts to appear.

There is a site somewhere that explains types of ghosts (about 7 types of them). One or two types on that site aren’t even ghosts “as we know it”, but something like a recording in the fabric of space and time - which gets into wierd physics. (like civil war ghosts)

I know a woman who lives in an older house alone. Some time after she moved into the house she had apparitions of a spirit…a man, I believe. She ignored them for awhile but one night she confronted the spirit and asked , “…why are you here?” no response; again she said, " Go to Jesus, go to the light…and I will pray for you…"

The apparitions ceased.

From this, I believe “ghosts/spiritual beings” are people who have died and became sort of “earthbound.” I believe these are souls that have not detatched themselves from this earthly existance and have not yet passed into eternity. It is a time of great emptiness for that soul.

Should a soul, through prayers/Mass go to Judgment at least it will have entered eternity and hopefully Purgatory (a place of waiting and hope). Being earthbound after death is torment such that we are unable to understand.

I believe my spiritual warfare started in a hospital. Tim

Now I hope this is not seen as a revelation I don’t want to offend, so take it off if you wish.
There is a huge difference between ghosts and spirits, and they should not be tempered with unless you are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
I see ghosts and some of the satanic spirits Ihave seen would leave a person in fear of what there is in the spirit world, there is a huge difference between ghosts and spirits. At work we have some ghosts in a building I have to enter, maybe very bad spirits but we can only see feel know what God allows us to know. I take no notice of them. Satan is a spirit and will covet or take the place of a person long or short time dead, and he does this for evil reasons.
Remember how Jesus told the person who had died that he could not go back to warn his brothers that they were hell bound, God has given us Jesus as the way but some people get into these ( i can’t spell it) oige boards, that is satanic not ghosts but spirits. a person could become a christian but the spirits cast out will come back to look at the turfe it owned and if the person is not aware then the spirit will bring back ( Jesus tells us) 7 spirits worse than itself and the person would be tentimes worse than they were before.

In the town where my wife lived my wife and I believed that we should go onto a hill top and section the town into 4 parts as we prayed over the town that had many bad spirits. Three youth came up and told us to leave, that so and so didn’t like us being there. The spirit over the town (satin) saw what we were doing and hated it. Satin will use any person he can and who will give themself to him.

I could tell you of many situations like this but it is not good to be distracted from thinking of Jesus.
Jesus is our source of life of love of eternal peace. Keep our minds on Jesus

God bless.
