Gift for my God child... Past due for 1st Communion

My 12 year old needs to do first communion but I don’t think my sister is real enthusiastic about it. I’m getting a late birthday present for my nephew 12 yrs old. I want, i think, to maybe add a book. Hes not enrollef in a first communion class yet, and I thought maybe my nephew can help me persuade my sister to go forward with it. Any ideas for a book that might inspire him? I ought, am obligated, to make some effort to get him to that place. They live far from me.

Can anyone recommend a book he might find interesting and possibly spark an interest in receiving the Eucharist. He’s a bright 12 yr old. His father is an engineer if that might help with suggestions. Thanks.

As he is now 12, he would go to Confession, receive 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation all at the same time 🙂
I’d suggest you buy Trent Horn’s book “Why We’re Catholic”, read it, share it with your sister and discuss it with her.
 
Well, one of my strategies is to circumnavigate my sister, and get him to desire it first and ask for it himself.

No. Depending on the Diocese some Confirmation happen at 15.
You can’t generalize like this.
There’s 2 years of prep. Jamal, your sister needs to decide…are they Catholic or not.
If she will not see to his instruction, you should. You’re his godfather. That’s part of your responsibility: to SUPPORT and heolp the parent teaching the faith.

ETA: IF she will permit it. If she balks, maybe show her the promises she made at his Baptism.

If he has never attended Faith Formation, they could put him in Children’s OCIC, and he could get them both at once next Easter. Good luck

Well, it can be difficult dealing with family. My sister lives 1000 miles away, and I first have to ask her if she is gong to mass regularly, which is definitely not a given.
 
Why do you have to ask her that? I would just mention that it’s past time for your nephew’s first communion, and that as his godfather you’re excited for the occasion and would like to know what kind of gift she would think appropriate. Assume it’s going to happen.
I applaud you for taking your role as godparent seriously. I never knew who my godparents were and they never mentioned the church to me. I didn’t even know I was Catholic until I joined the church 50 years after baptism. So your role is a significant one.
