My mother is in a rehab facility right now, trying to get stronger so she can go home. She has stage 4 lung cancer that has traveled to her bones and possibly her liver. We are in process of getting a second opinion; however, we realize that her time on this earth is limited. My mom was baptized and raised in the Presbyterian Church. She attended Presbyterian and Methodist churches sporadically over her adult life, but hasn’t been to church in many years. Her heart seems to be softening towards the Lord and she is receptive to me and to others praying for her. These next few weeks may be critical in regards to leading her towards Jesus, Who may be calling her home. Does anyone have any ideas as to a gift (book, Holy card, etc.) I can give her that she may reflect on while in the rehab facility? This is difficult for me to decide upon b/c she is not Catholic and neither has she been very religious during her life. Any ideas? She has a lot of time on her hands, as she can’t go anywhere or do much.

I am sorry to hear about your mother 😦 It is a very difficult time and it gets very challenging.

My mother has stage II Cancer and Parkinson. We are not sure of what the future will bring and so we hope for the best.

Does your mother have access to cable TV. Perhaps she can watch EWTN and there is always a lot of Catholic programs?? I remember watching a Mother Angelica rerun one day in which she talked to the audience specially the sick and suffering and gave them some beautiful words of compassion and mercy. Then, she asked them to offer up their sufferings for the sake of others and that they are our heroes. It was so beautiful!

Otherwise, a DVD player with some Mother Angelica or other peaceful DVS that can bring her comfort.

Blessings and Peace,
