Gift for the priest

Me and my fiancee are getting married next month. We have been prepared privately by a wunderful priest from FSSP who really invested a lot of time (me met almost every sunday for almost one year) and he refused to take any money from us. But we would like to show him how thankful we are and make him a gift. Do you have any ideas, what we could give him? We would be thankful for any ideas! 🙂

The best gift: a year of Masses offered for Him, shrines and religious orders offer this…!
 
If you don’t mind dropping a bit–but not like a TON of money–you can buy what’s sometimes called a “pastoral stole,” which is a kind of stand-alone stole not part of a set of vestments. They often come reversible in white in violet since those are the colors used for baptisms, violet is used for confessions, and so on. They are often heavily embroidered or have a design all over them. IMO this is the cheapest functional gift worth giving to a priest. The only other ideas I have are a new rectory (lol), chalice, a set of vestments or something like that. Those things are all rather expensive.

You can look around eBay and vestment makers’ websites. Look at all the stoles.

My one warning is not to buy some random knick-knack that you would buy for just anyone, unless you know him personally and you know what he likes. I think you should buy something specifically related to priestly ministry, hence the pastoral stole, which isn’t cheap but is cheaper than most other items.
 
ours likes woodworking, so we got him a gift card for lowe’s and a thank-you letter.

Do you know him well enough to know of any interest/hobbies? You could work it around that 🙂

Maybe you can find out what your priest enjoys and go with something related to that??

Our priest liked dining out but rarely did so, so he was given a very nice gift certificate to the “finest restaraunt” in town and he loved it! Not religious oriented though really like a year of Masses would be.
 
A gift certificate to a church supply company is always a good idea. I would NOT, as one poster suggested above, get the priest a stole or any other vestment or furnishing, without checking with him first. Individual preferences and tastes vary greatly among priests–including FSSP priests–and many priests are given things that they prefer not to use. Unless you are a very close personal friend of some years who is intimately familiar with his tastes and preferences, I would give the gift certificate, or at least let the priest choose what he would like before ordering it.
 
Get him an I-pad or something similar… It would possibly be of some benefit to him and he may well not be able to afford one on his own,

We had a Priest years ago who was a huge New orleans Saints fan so several of us got together and got him several tickets, none that conflicted with his Mass obligations. He was thrilled and really appreciated them.👍

If he likes fishing, get his some fishing lures.

If he likes golfing, get him some golf balls.

Maybe jogging, get him a gift card for some jogging shoes.

Maybe a nice wristwatch with an engraving.

One thing they all like, home made bread or goodies. That goes over big.

Maybe some nice kind of cheeses.

A nice windbreaker jacket would be nice.

But get something personal. They already have books and religious articles.

Hello. 🙂 Normally, I would suggest buying him something related to Catholicism, but I’m not going to suggest that this time. FSSP priests, I assume, make less than most diocesan priests. As a result, they probably can’t afford nice things too often.

I would suggest you ask someone who knows your priest well what he likes. If he likes camping, buy him something camping related. If he likes reading, buy him a nice book.

If you can’t find what he likes, maybe you can take him out to a nice dinner. A priest’s meal isn’t usually fancy, and he doesn’t get to go to a restaurant often.

If your pastor likes to read, how about a gift card to a book store, either religious or secular?

You could take him out to a nice restaurant for dinner. Ask him if he likes baseball. My husband and I often makes meals for our parish priest and he is very appreciative of home cooked food!

Remember he’s a priest AND a normal human being, so perhaps gift certificates to bookstores, etc.
