Yikes! One of the other newly-received in my class got small gifts for our catechists. It didn’t even occur to me to get gifts (a common blind spot for me).

Any ideas?

how about a small Bible, or a crucifix necklace? or rosary beads?

Those little pocket prayer books would be nice. They’re not very expensive and available at any Catholic bookstore. They’re really useful.

This year those in my process bought me flowers. It was very much appreciated as I really don’t need anything else. A certificate to a book store would be nice but I really would not want another bible (I have about 10 of all sizes) or a cross necklace (I have 5) or a rosary (I have too many to count). Also a gift certificate to a resturant is a good idea. I have received so many gifts that I don’t really need that I have re-gifted them or given them to outreach to bring to the nursing home.

I got a bookmark when I got confirmed, and it had the last line from the poem “Footprints”. The line reads, “When you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.” Very cool to me, since coincidentally I have the poem hanging in my room, and my mom got me a book that contains the poem, then gives excerpts of Scripture for each line (Probably about 20 excerpts per line)

But for some simpler ideas, I’ll second the rosary beads, crucifix necklace, and prayer book. Perhaps some additional suggestions could be prayer cards?

I treasure the heartfelt handwritten notes or cards I have received from RCIA participants, and their assurances they would remember me in their prayers.

Gift cards to the local Catholic bookstore would also be appreciated though!

Hmmm, I guess a blind side for me too lol… I was only a sponsor, but if I was an RCIA instructor honestly I think the only thing I would want is for you to live the faith, anything else 🤷 lol

I did remember to get my fiance a nice card and holy spirit pin for her to wear, and my Candidate a nice card. I wanted to do more, but I’ve been broke lately 😦

I would love it if someone had a Mass said for me but no one has ever done that.

What I have appreciated receiving are cards with heartfelt notes.

While I know people mean well, I don’t want additional rosaries or Bibles, and no necklace is going to replace my St. Benedict medal.

We got money together as a group and had personalized plaques for all 4 main people made. We then got a chasuble for the priest in charge of OCIA.

I’ve taught RCIA and catechism for 12 years. I always appreciate thank-you notes.

I made hand made gifts for the RCIA director and my sponsor - but then I’m a crafting sort of person 🙂
