I am with gift of the Holy Spirit since approximately November of 2006. I was baptized in May of 2006 (Chruch of Christ)…(I backslide shortly after I was baptized but I came to my senses and re-attempted Repentance). The Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost/Spirit of Truth) communicates with me via heavenly visions, internal communications that have been labeled from the heavenly visions to have been trances (internal communication with slight vision), and ‘telepathy’ (internal communications without an internal vision). Ask me of the Holy Ghost and I will tell you of Him.

I share communications from Holy Ghost with others on various internet discussion forums, persons whom I interact with in person, and my immediate siblings and parents. I live in San Diego, we are experiencing wildfires right now (10/23/07). Holy Ghost does communicate events to me before they happen but to my knowledge He never mentioned the wildfires.

Yeah, I watched the news. It is really bad over there. I hope the fire die out soon.

About Holy Spirit, what kind of events you were told?
 
Events meaning before they happened (prophecy). The heavenly visions that I receive from Holy Ghost are somewhat vague (though sometimes the heavenly visions are explicit). It is my opinion that Holy Ghost communicated to me with vague communications about these ‘recent’ events: The twin tornadoes in Kansas, the fire in Charelston, the wrestler who ‘died’, the earthquake in Japan. There have been others but those are the ones that I remember at this moment. Holy Ghost frustrates me with His foreknowledge by hinting to me what I am going to be doing later that day before I do it or before it happens. I am friends with Holy Ghost. Holy Ghost shuns sin. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Truth. The Holy Ghost labels things with truth (ie: Geo metro gets ‘good mpg’…I forget the exact phrase that He used on that particular car that day). Ask us more about God if you would like…

In Catholic circles, we strongly advise people who receive special communications, which they believe to be from the Holy Spirit, to “test the spirit” (I Jn 4:1). We would urge you to seek spiritual direction from a competent person: one who is discerning, who is deeply familiar with Scripture . . .

A person who reports extraordinary communications from God should welcome a challenge: it is important to rule out other sources, such as a possible satanic influence or the workings of one’s own disordered mind. You can be sure that if this is of God, it will be shown to be so.

I am under the impression that you are quite young. That, in itself, is not a problem, but it does lead one to caution you to seek counsel from a wise and experienced guide.

Yes that is what i was thinking also, i think you should talk to a priest about this so he can guide you.
Im not saying i doubt your gift, but you just want to make sure.

Although postwriter is from the Church of Christ, I agree that it might be profitable for him (or her) to speak with a Catholic priest – possibly one who has some experience with the Charismatic Movement – because the Catholic Church has more experience with the discernment of spirits than any other Christian group.

I’m going to share my non-Catholic viewpoint on this.

Usually the Holy Spirit will tell you of things that have a spiritual significance, not about Geo Metros having good gas mileage. You should pray daily that ONLY the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus and the Holy Angels tell you things you need to hear. Other things like telling you what you will do that day could be coming from different sources, such as spirit guides, earthbound spirits or even dark spirits (demons).

You need to make sure before you take anything they say as the truth. Also, you need to be grounded in this gift for yourself first before you can offer assistance to others. This is a recent gift (if it’s from God) and must be taken slowly and with some direction from someone who also has the same gift and been using it for some time.

I have someone who helps me and gives me direction. You need to do the same. Ask the Lord to help you find someone.

I am gratified (but not surprised) to see that a non-Catholic Christian sees the obvious possibility of danger with spiritual gifts that have not been properly tested. Both Catholics and non-Catholics who claim such gifts submit them for discernment to people who have solid experience and wisdom.

Two sure signs that one is NOT receiving such communications from the Lord are 1) any “revelation” that contradicts Scripture and the teaching of the Church and 2) the unwillingness to submit to the legitimate authority of one’s pastor or superior with respect to the gifts.

I have to agree with you regarding Fa Chan’s post. It is a very good advice. By seeking other for spiritual direction is to show the fruit of humilty. As you may know, there are many people who fail to be humble for the revelation they receive; thus, it displeases God.

The Holy Spirit isn’t describe as a she. the Holy Spirit is describe as a He. Feminizing the Third Person of the Trinity is deceiving.

How do I know the Holy Spirit isn’t a she? Jesus said so.

Read John 16:13-14

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because **he will take from what is mine **and declare it to you.

These “gifts” can be dangerous. If one’s mind is “open” to communication with spiritual beings that means that anyone can come through. It could be any kind of spirit, benign or malicious, true or false, light or dark.

One thing I do is ask the spirit whether it submits itself to Jesus Christ as its Lord. If it doesn’t say anything or refuses to do so, then you can surmise that it’s not from God. Any spirit that is of God will gladly tell you, “I submit to the authority of Jesus Christ”. No spirit of the Devil can say this name.

Don’t get me wrong. I definitely believe in the gifts that God can give, including telepathy, clairaudience, clairsentience, clairvoyance and telekinesis. But, the reality is that these “things” can come from fallen angels who oppress or possess humans. Things can move, lights can go off and on, etc.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on the two conditions you mentioned.

Although my understanding of these gifts and abilities differs greatly from Catholicism, we can agree that being open to spirits does have some problems that need to be dealt with. When I encountered similar things as postwriter has, I consulted a person that I knew understood these things and he’s been guiding me ever since. Without his aid I would be lost as to what to do or not do, believe or not believe.

I am pretty sure that when such gifts appear for Christians, there is very little difference between Protestants and Cahtolics.

Your admonition to challenge such a gift by rejecting anything that does not submit to the Name of Jesus Christ is VERY sound!

Sound, but not logical. The Holy Spirit IS God, so I don’t think he’d answer “Yes” … The person here is talking about communicating with the Holy Spirit, and not anything else… so if that spiritual entity says “no” What is there to believe? Surely that logic works with EVERYTHING ELSE… but when it comes to God it’s a completely different story and can lead to rejection of God… I would have said something along the lines of … In the Name of Christ I ask that this spiritual entity reveal itself- if nothing happens it is either: The Devil, a really powerful demon, or God… Well, it slims it down a bit atleast 😛

To the OP… I ask which Church you favor most, if any at all and if the Church should be relied upon more than the Scriptures… I ask so I might test you myself. (I’d also like an answer to this question from that entity you have spoken of.)

The OP THINKS he is speaking to the Holy Spirit. And I pointed out to him that if the Holy Spirit is supposedly telling you that a Geo Metro is an economical car then it isn’t the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is concerned with spiritual matters and a person’s walk in the light.

My admonition to him was to make sure it was the Holy Spirit. If it was the Holy Spirit and he/she asked if they submitted to Jesus Christ I believe the Holy Spirit would gladly tell him/her that Jesus has authority in heaven and earth.

It is a rare thing for the Holy Spirit in Scripture to speak directly to men. Usually angels or the Lord Himself appeared to men and spoke to them. The Holy Spirit convicts one of sin and leads one into the truth. And Mercygate is right. If what the spirit says to you leads you to Christ and Scripture then you may be sure it is from God.
