Gift suggestion

Hello all,

I would like to buy my hair stylist a rosary or another devotional item as a Christmas gift. She is about 23 years old, Vietnamese, Catholic born and raised, and has been very supportive of me in my journey to RCIA. She is going through some growing pains right now with a break up from her boyfriend from high school and perhaps a struggle with chastity.

Any suggestions on an appropriate rosary for her? Of course I am sure any would be nice but I am wondering if there is something in particular that would be helpful for her as she is going through this, and hopefully matures and makes some better choices. For example, I don’t exactly know what the miraculous medal is meant to help, or what a certain saint on a rosary might indicate.

What a great gift idea. I might consider a Gift Certificate to a Catholic Store where she can choose her own rosary or gift.

For very personal reasons, I’d do something other than a rosary. Mine is very special for me.

When I was in seventh grade, I won the spelling bee, and my prize was a rosary that had the Mysteries engraved on the center medal, which had three pieces that fanned out. I used that rosary until my DM died. She had a rosary which she had seen in a jewelry store and fell in love with. It was, IIRC, about $20, which was a lot of money for us. She paid it off $1 a week for several months. Before she was buried, I asked the funeral director to swap my rosary for hers, and that is the one I have today.

When my DSIL was ill, I bought her the most beautiful rosary I could find, which happened to be in the Basilica in Assisi. That rosary never left her body from the time we gave it to her until she died. When she did, her DD asked if, instead of having her buried with it in her hands, it could be given to her DGD as a remembrance, and we happily agreed.

So, in my world, rosaries are often filled with memories.

I think a cross would be a lovely gift since she could wear it every day and be reminded that there are people who care about her.
