My friends and I were having a conversation about this, and I’m curious to see what you all think about accepting expensive gifts or large amounts of money from someone you don’t know? For example, a girl is at the casino and a guy there wins $5,000 and decides to buy her something in the stores for $500. Would it be wrong for her to accept this gift? I would never do it just because it seems wrong to me, but than a friend of mine said what if someone just came right next to you at a restaraunt and put $500 on the table and said here this is for you, would you take it? I mean I don’t see anything wrong in that, but the actual gift I do , I don’t know why. What do you all think?

On the general principle that there is no such thing as a free lunch, in exercising the virtue of prudence I would be very hesitant, but if I did accept it, would lose no time in passing it on to someone in need. If you mean, as a service person would I accept a large tip, you betcha.

I agree with puzzleannie. It is highly unlikely in this world that an expensive gift from a stranger would come without an ulterior motive. and I am suspicious and leery of all ulterior motives, at least until I’ve brought it to the surface to analyze it.
