Is nudity forbidden in canon law?if canon law does not state that dance is forbidden, than it’s not.

Particularly since liturgical law is separately codified: the Missal itself, the Lectionary, the Calendar, the GIRM, RS, Liturgicam Authenticam, all these are examples of liturgical law for the OF that is not codified in Canon Law.So if something isn’t specifically denied in canon law it’s permissable? That doesn’t seem reasonable.
The Cardinal of one of (?) the largest American Sees presides over at least one of these every year at a Religion Education Congress. I doubt his successor will, but we may have to wait two years to see.but I bet fluked Masses like those nowadays are very isolated and only associated to pastors who are not obeying or associating themselves with their local bishops.
If I’m not mistaken, Bishops can allow pastors to have girl altar boys if they so desire, but no pastor is REQUIRED to use girl altar boys. I know a few pastors who refuse even though their Bishop allows it.
Sounds a lot like the situation in Germany… just with soccer in this case. Most soccer games are on a Sunday. When I trained the new altar servers we had 11 children for First Communion. One moved away but 10 became altar servers. I had 5 boys and 5 girls. Of the 5 boys I lost 2 to soccer in the first 2 years because their parents thought soccer was more important. This could be a factor. Though if it is, those boys need a kick in the pants from parents and the priest. But it seems to me that other factors are so much more important that it could easily be addressed in other ways which don’t involve telling girls they can’t serve. For example, I think, and I’m sure in Ontario you should be able to identify with this, that hockey has a huge effect on boys not being available for church at all on Sunday, much less available to be servers.
In fact, boys regularly used to be told that they would be servers, whether they wanted to or not.
We have some girl servers in our Masses, but they dress in long white robes, so they are not distracting, and some are more devout than the male servers. At the risk of opening a hornet’s nest, what does Canon Law state about girl altar servers? I suspect that the same is valid for female priests.
I have seen girl servers in Novus Orde Masses.
Actually they weren’t on Sundays. We had blue laws, everything was closed. There were no team sports or practices. Sunday was a day to rest and go to church no matter what your denomination was. Even when my kids were little, and that is only going back 15-20 years, there were no practices on Sundays.Hockey, baseball, computer games or any other distractions are mere excuses all of which were available pre-V2.
Multi-Cultural liturgies are not really the Catholic Church. The true Catholic Church does not have dancing in it. Perhaps they intend to come off as Catholic, but in the end they fail by adding the liturgical dance. Even in multi-cultural churches, liturgical dance has no place. Any Mass that has it isn’t a Mass you need to be attending.
Malleus: Well - remember - no one here is sdaying anything here to diminish your love for GOD and your interest in serving him. I am a Traditional Catholic and I do not believe in Altar Girls. Not because they are less worthy to serve - but because Almighty GOD has a role for each of us to play in serving him as HE wants us to serve him.Wow. I’ve been an (girl) altar server 6 years. I never knew so many people do not want me and the other girls up there. I’ve always been proud to serve the Lord and help the priest, but after seeing how it is viewed on this site I might take it off the “interests” on my profile. This is a real eye-opener.
Just so you know I think there are 7 girls and 7 boys at my church for servers.
p.s. It seems that many people consider serving to be like being a seminarian. That doesn’t seem right…?

Read I Corinthians Chapter 11 and then remember that the Blessed Virgin Mary is never depicted as not being Veiled in Church. And for the Same reason - you saw the Bishop remove his Headwear during the Canon at Easter didnt you?
And yet of all the Apostles and Popes and Bishops and Male Saints throughout History Almighty GOD has raised The Blessed Virgin Mary as the only created human being in history who is not under Original Sin. The Greatest of all Saints. And she never served Mass. She served GOD and perfectly

Reasonable, or not, that’s the way it is. Why do you think we are having so much confusion within the Church? We have dancing, Guitar Masses, full orchestra masses, rock and roll masses, and so on.So if something isn’t specifically denied in canon law it’s permissable? That doesn’t seem reasonable.

That is how the Roman code of law worked and Canon Law is based on the principles of the Roman code of law. What is not forbidden is permissible. That does not mean that I fully agree with the concept, you can also see that sometime the Church uses positive laws/instructions like the GIRM. We should stick to it, nothing more nothing less.So if something isn’t specifically denied in canon law it’s permissable? That doesn’t seem reasonable.
Keep serving and challenge boys into serving, unless they think that they are not as capable as a girl.Wow. I’ve been an (girl) altar server 6 years. BTW, with regard to your correlation between girl servers and the decline in seminarians. There currently is a slight rise in the number of seminarians. Most of these young men would have been servers just about the same time that girls were allowed to begin serving. I know of three young men who were altar servers with girls who are now in the seminary. Also in our parish, the boys have no problem serving with the girls as we have about a 50/50 mix.
You are saying that women have cause the decline in vocations and the decline of an entire denomination. Wow I had no idea that women had such power.Reasoning would be appropriate right now.
The loss of prominence among the priesthood has contributed to the decline in seminarians. The priesthood is exclusive to males. Only priests can offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Allowing females to assist the priests decreases the prominence of altar servers.
Just because you say something is a fallacy doesn’t make it so or a wrong conclusion. The Anglican denomination is in decline and coincidentally has female ministers.
:clapping::clapping::clapping:I call BS on this. V2 has nothing to do with it, and neither the fact that the sports were available before V2.
It has to do with today’s parents that do not put priority on the Church and so the kids do not show any interest. If a father were to put priority on the Church and push his sons to serve we would have more boys as altar servers. The lack of boys in the servers ranks is due to the lack of sense of self-sacrifice that parents show through lack of true participation in the Church and through birth control. Yes, birth control is a men issue because it is an easy way to dump the reproductive choices on women with the men not having to do any sacrifice. Our sons see that!
Recently my son picked an altar server retreat over the last dance at his Catholic school. He did that without any (name removed by moderator)ut from my side, I simply asked about his wishes. How is that? Because I am the spiritual leader of the family and I make sure that our first priority in life is to be Catholics. When I look around my parish and I see women that are the spiritual leaders of the family I see their girls involved with serving in different roles.
I do not see a lot of either married or single men involved in too many parish activities, but I see just a bunch of whining babies complaining that they do not want to argue with women. Who is willing to die for Christ when we are not even willing to stand some discomfort by addressing local issues. We should stop blaming JPII and the “disobedient” Bishops and we should man up and own responsibilities for the lack of our own involvement.
You keep right on serving.Wow. I’ve been an (girl) altar server 6 years. I never knew so many people do not want me and the other girls up there. Even as one who thinks girls shouldn’t be serving, let me thank you for serving.p.s. It seems that many people consider serving to be like being a seminarian. That doesn’t seem right…?

I guess I see where you’re coming from. I would have a problem if there was a female minister doing benediction though. I also think girl servers look just a tad out of place in any setting. I don’t mind the female readers though, that’s A-O-K.It seems that after Vatican II the liberal wing of the Church took over and we are now in this morass.
Truthfully, I see nothing wrong with female altar servers, readers, ministers, etc. for the NO mass. Remember, the early Church did have women as deacons and servers ( read St. Paul’s letters ). But, as a traditionalist, I believe that the Latin Mass should have only male ( boys ) altar servers and there should be no changes. ( I know that this will start an argument, oh well ).

it is not the same as female priests because alter servers are not ordained, they are still lay peopleAt the risk of opening a hornet’s nest, what does Canon Law state about girl altar servers? I suspect that the same is valid for female priests.
