Hi, I’m new here and I’m hoping to get some advice.

My girlfriend’s family is going through financial trouble right now and I have no clue what to do. I don’t know what to say to her or what I can do for her.

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation…even you’re married and it is your spouses’ family…anything well help.

Thank you!

Just be supportive if she wants to talk about it. I don’t know that there is anything you can “do” for them.

But with the holidays coming up, you can suggest handmade gifts instead of buying things or no gifts.

It depends on what type of financial trouble, your ability to help, and how serious of a relationship you have.

From my personal experience: You don’t want to marry into financial troubles due to poor decision making that may drag you into the same problem. If they are irresponsible with a little money they will be more irresponsible with more money.

On the other hand if they are responsible people who have fallen on bad times, you want to be very careful about offering to help so it doesn’t come accross wrong. Many men are sensative about providing for their families. Honnorable men will take it as an insult if their daughter’s boyfriend feels he needs to help out the father’s family. It is like telling the father he is a failure as a provider. Anything you can do to reinforce his sense of dignity would be benneficial.

As posted already you may want to refrain from exchanging expensive gifts.
