I just dont see why people cant love god or have room for other thoughts AND make themselfs feel good at the same time. It isnt like totaly 1 or the other right? I mean i love god and I know my friends love god 2 but do other stuff 2. See what i mean? people always say like you can get pregnant or get a disease if u have sex but then say u cant touch yurself either! that doesnt make sense tro me at all.

If you truly love God then you obey his commands in regard to your body and sexuality - and he asks you to save everything for marriage. All sexual thoughts and activity.

Masturbation and premarital sex both come from the same thought processes - ‘my own sexual pleasure is more important to me than anything else, even more important than obedience to God’.

You really think masturbation doesn’t leave you MORE open to premarital sex? To adultery when you do marry? Of course it does! It creates a chink in your armour if you will. You’re less able to restrain yourself and resist in situations where you’re tempted to premarital sex or adultery if you’ve been masturbating.

Judging by the other questions you’ve been asking here, you yourself are being tempted in this regard. Trust me, stop masturbating and the other things will be easier to resist as well.

I get what yur saying about being weak but nobody ever says that the bible says that girls have to not do everything! It kinda says boys cant do it but not girls. i know other people say that when you say sex that it means everything about sex but how do they know that? That was kinda my first question cuz i know people say it but my friends say theres nothin in the bible that says that and i looked 2.

**I am definitely not a bible scholar, but I know that it says many places that fornication is wrong without specifying gender. I am sure someone will be able to post specific verses. **

Plus, if you are Catholic, that means that you don’t JUST look to the bible for answers. We have over 2000 years of Tradition to read up on too!

I suggest reading the cathechism of the Catholic Church (there are some online too) because it addresses many of the questions you have posted so far.

Good job for questioning the faith, but you have to be willing to hear and accept the answers.

The Bible doesn’t mention a lot of things specifically. That’s why the Catholic faith is based on Scripture and the ‘Tradition’ of the Church, which together make for a much fuller ‘explanation’ of what is best for the human person.

So the reason women, just like men, shouldn’t masturbate, isn’t just because “the Bible says so” (which it very well may not anywhere, just like it not once uses the word ‘Trinity’), but because we can find everywhere in the Bible God’s gift of human love. I mean, in Genesis we see men and women made for one another from the beginning, and later passages about marriage and purity all tie into that.

Sex is not just for pleasure, it is a physical expression of unitive love which two married people share, and out of which new human beings are created. Masturbation, just like sex outside of marriage, cheapens God’s gift of sex and reduces it just to the pleasure part. In doing that–you cheapen yourself.

God knows what is best for us, and what is best for us is purity of mind, body, and spirit. Loving God with all of yourself means keeping yourself sexually pure, and waiting for marriage until you can really celebrate in physical human love with your spouse (and, believe it or not, God!). I know this sounds really hard–and I know from experience with my boyfriend of almost 2 years that by no means is it easy–but God only desires our true happiness, and I trust that the wait will be worth it! 🙂

Anyways, I suggest you check out Jason Evert’s website, pureloveclub.com (I think the link is even on this forum page, click on ‘chastity’ at the top!) There’s a lot of info there, all in question and answer form, so you should get a lot of your questions answered there!

Hey Aly,
I confess to having not read most of the posts, but here’s my take.

Masturbation, though it may seem harmless, damages so much. I’ll start with the self. As one masturbates it begins to become an addiction. The need for the feeling becomes so great that it can begin to control a person. Also, that need for the feeling can ultimately lead to a need for a greater feeling, so one moves on to the next level - sex. So many people think it’s a temporary thing or it’s something they can control or what-not, but the reality is that the intense, pleasurable feeling one gets from personal sexual stimulation begins to become addicting whether a person wants it to or not.

Next we can talk about the damage done to future relationships. As a person masturbates and imagines, or looks at, other people they are conditioning themself to view that person as an object of pleasure. Soon that becomes the only thing they are seen as. And since the need for the feeling has been established through repeated masturbation, it can be easy for someone to get into the habit of using others simply for the need for feel something. This damages not only a person’s relationships with others, but also emotionally and sometimes physically damages the other person involved.

Sadly, both of these are things that are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to turn away from once the thought/desire/need has been established.

Next is the damage done to one’s relationship with God. By masturbating a person puts themself as the #1 priority. They place their physical pleasure above everything else. First, this takes away from the fact that we should be focused on God. Second, is that person is essentially telling God that our desires and our way is better than His. We don’t even have to really address the idea of “God said we shouldn’t so we shouldn’t”. Masturbation is essentially placing ourselves above everyone and everthing, including God, so that we can feel good.

The idea that masturbation is personal and doesn’t hurt anyone and doesn’t cause any damage is one of the greatest deceits society has managed to mainstream. It’s ASTOUNDINGLY damaging and it is so hard to fix once the path has been started and the damage has been done.

I went back and read all the other posts. I’ll stick with what I said.

Great explanation for why masturbation is wrong. There’s no question that masturbation can easily become an addiction that can lead to more selfish acts. Now if only the general culture would read this and really think about what you’re saying here.

What a horrible and judgmental thing to say! I believe she is asking a very valid question that many teen-aged girls probably have. Now, I would agree that the proper place for the question might be in the Ask the Apologist section where it will not receive any subsequent comments, but still, to tell someone to stay away from here is irresponsible and uncaring, and unchristian as well. If someone is seeking the Truth, why in the world you ever push them away, just because YOU are uncomfortable with the subject matter?

And to the OP, yes, of course it’s wrong. But the reason it is wrong for girls is because any sexual act should only be between a husband and his wife. The reason masturbation specifically is wrong, is because when a husband and wife are together making love, masturbation alone is a very selfish act, and it removes the unitive (bringing the couple together) aspect of love making, and can ultimately separate the couple emotionally.

And I also agree with another comment, you may need to reconsider going to your friends for advice on such subjects in the future.

Amen. The poster casting stones should feel free not to comment if she is offended.

I went to a retreat and know alot of christian teens had the same question. At least alotta the boys did. I was 2 shy to talk even when it was just the girls but the boys were all sayin they like get addicted but no girls ever said that. I thnk its totaly different 4 girls and nobody ever said that the bible said so or gave us a really good answer. I mean they said stuff like fornicating is wrong liek you guys are saying but its not like fornicating with somebody or getting pregnant. I mean I love movies and they make me feel good and i go 2 see alotta them. They still arent more important than god. God is #1in my life so why cant there be aloota different things that are 2nd or 3rd that make me feel good if they dont make me pregnant or get me a disease or hurt anybody?

Aly - I’m a girl and I’m saying it from my own personal experience - it can be addictive for girls as well! And it warps your whole view on sex - premarital and adultery and the whole lot. Trust me when I tell you these things!

I was positing on another question and said maybe everybody just is different and that bad stuff 4 somebody isnt bad 4 somebody else.

A guy emailed me this

Aly, what part of this - from your own link - do you not understand …

"neither I nor any of my colleagues in Catholic Campus Ministry would encourage a person to masturbate, and so, in that sense we would never find masturbation "acceptable." "

Something that is never acceptable is just that - never acceptable! Stop trying to make excuses for yourself.

Hi Aly,

I suggest you examine Matthew 5:28. Naturally the passage has a masculine voice but the message is conveyed to all women, too.

Lust(impure thoughts) is the equal of adultery. The only way to arrive at masturbation is through when you open the imagination to the scum of lust.

I pray that like St. Maria Goretti you may strongly say no to sexual sin as it is the most addictive and according to Our Blessed Mother at Fatima, the trap that loses the most souls.

Pray for the intercession of St. Maria and also pray to your guardian angel for protection against this sin.

I will keep you in my daily prayers as I know it is tough to be in your teens these days and to avoid buying into the lies of popular culture.

Do read that book. I think it’ll help you see why the Church teaches as it does on sexuality, and what a positive thing it really is.

To be sure, God does know why you do what you do. And why I sin in all the ways I do as well.

He knew why Adam and Eve ate the apple too. He knew why Judas betrayed him, why Peter denied him, why Paul persecuted his followers. He forgives those who, like Peter and Paul, repent and try seriously to amend their lives.

Not those who simply make excuses, as Adam and Eve did, not those who despair of being able to change as Judas did.

I’m not saying any of this to put you down at all. We all have areas where we need to change and it’s always really difficult!

Aly,

I think you need to slowly read over what you said. It is not as bad as some things people do. That is true.

BUT

killing one person is not as bad as killing one hundred, does that make it ok? Look at what God says throught the Bible and through His Church, and then honestly say, am I willing to change. No one here can know your heart, but feeling like it is not that bad is not the best way to figure out if it is bad or not. Our heart can lie to us, especially if it wants to continue something.

I would say that all lustful thoughts are forbidden, so all masturbation is forbidden (it is basically playing out a lustful thought with your body)

God doesn’t make radically different rules for the sexes.

I will be praying for you
