Should girls ask guys out?

Should a woman propose to her boyfriend instead of waiting for him to do it?

As a general rule - No or you might be running the rest of your life.

Take the chance if you must but be extremely careful.

Call me old-fashioned.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m way old-fashion too. It’s my liberal friends who think different. ^^

The man should always ask.

I dunno, I think the guy should propose, but that’s just me.

It’s traditional for the guy to do it but why? Maybe the guy is nervous or cant get up the courage. If a woman wants to get married, she can always give it a try. Sure, she may get made fun of for it, but why not? Theres no reason for the guy asking its just a tradition. I see no problem with it. The whole thing probably goes back to when men basically bought a wife and owned her. He had to make the decision to buy her. Do what you want. I dont think Id have the courage to though lol.

If he is not asking, he is not ready. Patience is a virtue.

Ps.25
21] May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I** wait** for thee.

Ps.31
24] Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who** wait** for the LORD!

Ps.40
1] I** wait**ed patiently for the LORD;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.

If a girl wants to meet/date a guy who likes girls to ask (or at least doesn’t mind them asking), then she should ask.

If a girl wants to meet/date a guy who thinks only boys should ask, then she should manipulate the guy into asking.

It’s simple, really.

I would feel honoured if a lady asked me out. I always feel special when something like this happens. On the other hand, I notice when I am being manipulated into asking someone out. Hehe. And I appreciate that, as well. The girl’s personality has a lot to do with this. If I were a girl, I would probably start talking to the guy instead of standing around and being pretty, but I’d rather not ask him on a date but talk, talk and talk. Then probably ask if he plays chess or something like that. Anything suggesting the possibility of more than friendship I would try to make come from him.

I don’t believe a girl should be missing out on guys she likes but who don’t notice. Or those who may be out of touch soon, like going away somewhere. Well, I suppose what would matter would be her intentions. If she were courageous and forthright, or if it were something different.

As for marriage, it’s supposed to be mutual commitment, so when people are romantic with each other, they should talk about it at some point. With my last girlfriend, who has dumped me recently, we were talking about it since the day we started meeting. 😉

haha 🙂

If a man wants a woman, he will ask for her eventually.

You speak as if this is is a small point, but please consider… A husband needs to have courage. He’s called to protect, defend, and lead his family, even at the risk of rejection from the world. It’s a tough job, not for the faint-hearted. (Just ask St. Joseph.)

If a guy is so afraid of rejection that he can’t get up the courage to ask a girl out, isn’t that kind of a bad sign?

BTW, Eamon, great link! 🙂

Yes and Yes, if you feel so inclined. I don’t see the point of dancing around and not making your feeling known.

As far as marriage if you are really ready to get married but the guy is not that is probably important info to know - you may want to make other plans.

Watch out! or be cautious!

The woman is probably going to have an easier time bonding to the children. Anyone who does so much sacrifice for one person or thing will always have a special bond. Think if you built up your own business spending a lot of time and resources doing so, are you just going to stand by and have someone tear it up. Combind that with just the bodies responces. A man is not in the same situation as the woman. You had better make sure that the man feels a source of co-ownership to the family and not just going along for the ride.

Because a man isn’t the one becoming pregnant he has the ability to leave. If he’s going to ask, he’s already should have played out this senerio in his mind, and freely on his own decided this is not what he wants to do. A female has more to lose in the break up more often than not, espcially if children are involved, so they should play that postion and makes sure he intiates a good proposition and that he takes seriously.

Don’t think it makes a differance? Think if it was Mary asked God at the annunciation.

Sure either way will work, but I just think that there is a greater sence of security if the man asks.

I think it is fine for a woman to ask a man out/show interest, but I do not think it is appropriate for a person of either gender to “chase” another person.

Asking someone to spend time is a proper way of showing interest. Continually bothering someone who shows no reciprocal interest in not good form.

Personally, I wanted a man who would propose. Being with that type of man mattered to me. If it is not critical to the couple that the man be the instegator of such, then they need to find their own way. But…don’t expect things to change after marriage. Make sure you are comfortable in the roles in your relationship NOW. A pattern is a pattern is a pattern.

The girls can drop hints, but the guys should do the appropriate actions. Otherwise the girl might end up doing all of the guy’s duty and then the guy may become dependent on the girl to do everything for their relationship…and that’ll lead to rough waters in the future.

A truer phrase was never written!! (and my o-so-old-fashioned husband would add that he better seek permission of the father before asking the young lady in question!!)

So what does everyone think about this? It was actually something I have thought about, but I’m not sure how I feel. Any (name removed by moderator)ut would be lovely.

My hubby and I used to have long conversations about what we planned for the future, our hopes and dreams, even how we would discipline our future children. My DH had not seriously asked me to marry him at that point. We were both just trying to discover if we had similar morals and goals. So, I don’t think that it is necessary for the girl to ask. In most instances the couple has already had conversations that point toward marriage long before the man props the question.

I have mixed feelings about this. In a way it sounds very lovely and old fashioned. At the same time, parents no longer own their adult daughters. I am not putting down anyone whose fiance asked her parents for her hand. I suppose that it is to show respect for the parents, which is nice. At the same time, I wonder what would happen if the parents say no. Isn’t that possible? Would the girl agree not to marry the man or is this just an empty custom with no meaning? Although I certainly hope that my daughters come to me with their feelings and that I can share my opinion of their boyfriends, I think that I would feel a little strange if their fiances asked for permission to marry them-especially if they are grown up and living on their own. Like I said, my feelings are mixed.
