Great reference, Thank you for putting that together.

What are the odds of putting that into a PDF format and a download link on your blog? :tiphat:

Wow, the dynamic rather than literal translations in the new version really stand out, don’t they? Let’s look at two related examples from the section concerning the Responsorial Psalm:
63(a): tempore quo dicendum est Allelúia
Old: During a season when the Alleluia is to be said
New: During a time of year when the Alleluia is prescribed

63(b): tempore quo Allelúia non est dicendum
Old: During the season when the Alleluia is not to be said
New: During a time of year when the Alleluia is not foreseen
The meaning is basically the same, but the Latin, of course, contains no word dealing with “prescription” or (seriously, now?) “foreseeing.” And it looks too like they’ve occasionally just added words wholesale to change the meaning:
In the distribution of Communion, the priest may be assisted by:
162: … etiam alios fideles, qui ad hoc rite deputati sint.
Old: … even other faithful who have been deputed for this purpose.
New: … even other faithful who have been duly deputed for this purpose.
Whoa! Where did “duly” come from?!

Such a shame that they chose freewheelin’ dynamic translations over literal, honest translations from the Latin. I expected better. Hopefully the silver lining is that it will send more and more people to the Latin original to learn, what does the GIRM really say?

Looks good.

I know the USCCB site has a similar comparison chart; out of curiosity what are the differences between theirs and yours? Did they miss some things that you are concentrating on, or is theirs more long-winded, etc?

I was asked by a priest friend of mine to compile a comparison of sorts between the 2003 GIRM and the 2011 (for lack of better terms) GIRMs. Here it is:

benedictgal-lexorandilexcredendi.blogspot.com/2011/08/some-changes-to-girm.html

This is by no means a complete comparison, but, it does highlight some key differences.
I love your Blog site.

I guess I’m a little disheartened that the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops isn’t disclosing much information on their home site with the Canadian Catholic GIRM other than sending away for my own new copy from the local Catholic religious store and finally getting away from the Canadian far outdated 1975 GIRM.

I hoping our new one at Advent tows the line more with the American Catholic GIRM as with the Lectionary.

Peace
Chris

I think that theirs is more for the Roman Missal itself than the GIRM. I did not see a comparison chart for the GIRM. Maybe I am missing something.

Thank you and everyone else for the kind words. This project was actually entrusted to me by a priest friend of mine.

I willl try to put this in a PDF format to post here. I need a little time, as my beloved little Queenie, my Boston Terrier, might be crossing the Rainbow Bridge soon and it is taking a huge toll on me. Please entrust both of us to St. Francis.
