Give me your best argument AGAINST becoming Catholic.

Thanks.

Catholics do not look like happy people, and they’re always yelling. Why would anyone want to do that to themselves?

I would venture to say that anyone who cannot, for whatever reason, assent to the doctrines of the Catholic Church should probably not become Catholic. The Church certainly has no need for more “cafeteria Catholics.”

If you can’t “follow Jesus” because you want “a place to lay your head” instead (Luke 9:58)…

If first you want to “bury your father” (Luke 9:59)…

If first you want to “say goodbye to your family” or “set hand to plow and look back” (Luke 9:62)…

If you don’t think you’re worthy to let Jesus “wash you” (John 13:8)…

People look bored at mass. If Catholics do it best then why do other churches seem to light a fire in people more effectively?

If you don’t believe you have to confess to a priest
If you don’t believe Jesus is present in the Eucharist
If you don’t think birth control is a sin
If you don’t believe the Pope is Christ’s representative on earth
If you don’t think divorce is wrong
If you don’t think homosexuality is a sin

Catholics do not look like happy people,
Maybe that’s coz non Catholics wear too much makeup:D

Seriously, brother, dont go by looks.
and they’re always yelling.
Which, when honest-ised, becomes “They are against the culture of death.”
Why would anyone want to do that to themselves?
Because they prefer the bread that gives eternal life to the bread that perishes.
It’s too hard.
No, its not. I tell you the truth. I have practiced the faith for 14 years and never once did I feel that it was hard.

Even if it is, it is possible “in Christ”.

If you don’t think birth control is a sin
If you don’t believe the Pope is Christ’s representative on earth
If you don’t think divorce is wrong
If you don’t think homosexuality is a sin
Or in short, if you are unscriptural.

That is all. Continue!

If my memory is correct, them’s Episcopalians.

Ouch. Brother you are one BAD apologist for Anglicanism!

All in fun, of course. Everybody loves a guy who plays with cards face up.

Now, now. You think I countenance such shenanigans?

Years back, “clown masses” were more often mentioned in places like this. And examples were more readily found on line. I located 4-5 of them, video, or photo, with comments. 3-4 were definitely RC events. 1 or perhaps 2 were Episcopalians (who are certainly prone to such things). This one (IIRC) was definitely Episcopalian. The clue, in my memory, is the clear bowl on the right. There was a video of the whole affair.

Or, I could be wrong.

Really? lol
I came into the Church in my 20’s, and it was a life changing experience. We just celebrated Thanksgiving here and I am so grateful that God called me to himself! Pulled me out of darkness into his light. Gave me a wonderful man to be my life partner. Kept me from a life of alcoholism and addictions (I had a parent that had addiction problems my whole life) When you see how dark life is without God, who can give some argument against jumping into the arms of God? Not me. lol

A lot of Catholics here giving their reasons that they wouldn’t become Catholic. :s

Also, it doesn’t have to be an argument; other Christian groups think differently than Catholics.

To Catholics it’s “I’m right, your wrong; join us because we’re the most Christian Christianity.” Whereas most ‘Protestant’ groups believe that other groups (including the Catholics) are quite alright.

The Trinity, faith by grace, Jesus died/rose, etc. We accept Him and He’ll save us. Jesus didn’t call His Disciples by any one denomination, and the Apostles never considered themselves labeled as ‘Catholic’.

So it matters more to Catholics, this idea of “Give me your best shot so we can fight about it.” But it means nothing to me.

However, I did like the thread “What is the reason you’re not Catholic.” Because it was less in your face, and allowed people to give their perspective.

I agree. Why are Catholics jumping in and speaking for the person who doesn’t want to be Catholic. 🤷
Also, it doesn’t have to be an argument; other Christian groups think differently than Catholics.
Choosing to enter the Church should not be based on what we think (only) but accepting the faith which compelled us to Love Jesus and repent to Him. So our thought shouldn’t be opposed to faith but formed through faith.

Some definitely have this mentality. But this is not exclusive to Cats. It should rather be, “join us because we are sinners recieving the Grace of Jesus.”

The Catholic Church is not a denomination. There is one Universal Church. Acts 9:31 uses the Greek term “Kath olos” to describe the whole Church, then describes Peter as going here and there among them all.
So it matters more to Catholics, this idea of “Give me your best shot so we can fight about it.” But it means nothing to me.
I don’t know if this was Randy’s intentions, but if that was, then I agree its not the most charitable approach. However, after participating in alot of Randy’s threads, I believe him to be more zealous for the faith than disingenuous.
However, I did like the thread “What is the reason you’re not Catholic.” Because it was less in your face, and allowed people to give their perspective.
Very understandable.

Because God lets us be hurt unjustly, far worse than the penalty due us by our own sins, and therefore doesn’t protect us from pain and therefore doesn’t care about us.
