Giving God an Ultimatum

But if, in genuine contrition, sorrow and despair we say, God if you don’t do something by tomorrow I’m going to have to take my life, that is very different. I went through that, 26 years ago. The answer came. I’m still here. 😀
Are you able to share your story?

What is it of your concern what my “or else what” may be?
I was just wondering. Giving someone an ultimatum usually means there will be repercussions if that person doesn’t come through. If you are giving God an ultimatum what exactly do you plan to do if He doesn’t deliver?

I don’t know…probably just stop attending mass, stop praying, stop being charitable. That’s about all I can do towards God…

That only hurts you, not God. it would be silly.

Jesus told us to ask for what we need. If we don’t get our requests, it’s because God has another plan for us regarding whatever it is.

Yes, but you know He will have the last laugh when you ultimately wind up in the Hot Place.

Yes, but sometimes it would be nice if He was a little more forthcoming in His “plan.”

I think that the key to asking God for things, is to trust Him. If you can do that, then you’ll always get an answer. And you’ll always be content with it.

Many times I’ve spoken to God and told Him what I was going to do. I didn’t know if it was the right thing to do, or the wrong thing to do, and the odds are that I would fail. But I promised God that I would leave the decision as to my success or failure up to Him. And I would gladly accept whatever that decision was.

So I wasn’t really giving God an ultimatum, rather I was putting my faith in Him. I could tell Him what I wanted the outcome to be, but at the same time I trusted Him enough to accept whatever He wanted the outcome to be.

So I think that if you can keep that as your relationship with God, then you will always be content. That doesn’t mean that it will always be easy, or that you’ll always get what you want. But maybe, you’ll someday hear the words, this is my child, in whom I am well pleased.
