Giving my grandparents the Catholic wedding they've always wanted

Hi!
I’m not sure if this is the correct area to post but…
My Grandparents had planned on being married in a Catholic Church, but ended up being married by a Justice of the Peace 49 years ago (I’m still not sure what the exact reason was for the elopement- I know that it wasn’t torrid like pregnancy or anything ). My Grandmother still looks back with regret that she did not have a real wedding, so the family would like to arrange to have them renew their vows (for their 50th next year) with all of us there to celebrate!!!
Is if it is ok to do this ceremony in a church since it isn’t a “real” wedding? Also, does it make a difference if it is on a different date than their original vows?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. I just really want my Grandparents to have a real wedding

They should contact their local parish and set up an appointment to speak with a priest. It’s kind of hard to say since there are factors that we don’t know - are they both Catholic? It’s always best to talk with a priest as he will be the most knowledgeable and will help iron out all the details.

What MsParrott suggested is a really, really good idea. If they have not had their civil marriage convalidated, that will happen at that time. If they have already had the civil marriage “blessed” but are just celebrating their anniversary, it is still OK, people do it all the time. Only your grandparents know for sure!

But let me say that it is so very sweet for your family to wnat to do this for them!!! I hope it comes off as Grandma wishes.
