I think you’ve been very thoughtful and have shared your stories and encouragement. When it’s hard to rub two nickels together, it’s hard for someone else to criticize why we don’t give to a lady or gentleman that appears to be in need. I appreciate that you kept it so real.

I can tell you really got to know people and care about their circumstances and weren’t simply handing out food. I can tell you were always a very kind and nice person.

If they are wanting food, give them a gift card to a specific place such as Burger King.If they are needing clothes direct them to a place such as Salvation Army or maybe a church that has a clothing closet.Or maybe direct them to a Catholic Church that has a St.Vincent de Paul chapter and let them assess the need.or donate a small amount of money directly to the person.

Once again, thank you! You are a kind and understanding person.

Agree.

The above statement that there are no noble poor was simply wrong as is the idea that all poor are noble.

Did anyone provide evidence for this number? I hear it batted around a lot but haven’t seen any studies or other evidence. I can be pretty critical of Snopes but can’t dispute them when they call this claim “unproven.” https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/do-panhandlers-make-50-an-hour/
The average panhandler makes no where near $50/hr. They may have times where they can earn $50 in an hour, but even at the top of the page, it’s more like $23,000/yr or $11.50/hr and that’s if the getting’s good.

Those that truly make $50/hr are exploiting their panhandler “subordinates” and that should be illegal because that’s trafficking. Only those that collect from other panhandlers have any chance to “make” $50/hr. Some people might consider it a “job” to beg for money from people, but it’s really exploiting these people. Those that exploit panhandlers are no different from those nail “salons” that traffick Vietnamese / other southern Asian immigrants.
