Giving Up CA for Lent

To all my CA friends:

I’m giving up CA for Lent, so if you don’t hear from me, I didn’t die (well, I guess it a long time to Easter, so anything can happen, but let’s hope not!).

A holy Lent to all. I’m going to miss youse guys, even the ones I disagree with.

I too will not be in CA for lent. Bless all of you and see you in 40 days!!!
 
I won’t be giving it up for Lent. Where else would I go online for Catholic fellowship?
 
Wow…it just seems to me, if you are using CA for the right reasons (learning, helping, etc.) this is almost like giving up part of your faith, like reading the CCC, or giving up helping a sick relative, for Lent. Aren’t there better choices?
 
Warning: I did this last year and it wasn’t hard— it was TORTURE. I haven’t decided what to give up yet, but it’ll be something less masochistic, like breathing.

:rotfl: …I gave it up except for the Retreat Father Leo is giving …just happened on this thread so I’m posting on it…and I’m in agony…😦
But I will continue as I did last year…not posting in my favorite Thread…The Treehouse…😃 Only this year I limited myself to just the Retreat and possibly to the CAF Rosary prayers if I have an up-date on a prayer intention or there should be an urgent need to pray …
Oh and I forgot to add that I’ll be posting on Sundays…😃
 
Sure, why not give up CA for Lent. And while you’re at it, why not give up reading the Bible, reading the Catechism, going to Mass, and receiving the Eucharist. Honestly, some people seem to be equating reading the forums with smoking or eating chocolate. What’s up with that??? :confused:

Because CAF can be addictive to some people. It’s only through reflection and self-examination that those people who choose to leave the forum for Lent are doing so because they realize it can be a distraction from living out their faith and getting closer to God. To those who do, I applaud them! 👍
 
I thought about this exactly before reaching CA.

I came to this place to read some discussion about Lent and to know more about the faith. For me sacrificing this will only do bad than good. Don’t give an oppurtunity to the devil in the name of the season, it’s very smarty guy and can disguise itself. (Oh yeah, if we are here to have just enjoy then we definitely need to skip it)

This is exactly why I gave this up for Lent. I gave it up because of negative answers like this. I am reacting to them like I am doing right now. This is supposed to be a forum of love and understanding and getting answers to questions that one might have. This is why I have converted. I gave it up because of the way it made me feel. It made me angry at times. I was reacting to the negativity and at times enjoying it. THIS IS WHY I GAVE IT UP!! I never gave up the Word of the Lord, I never gave up the Eucharist, or even going to Mass. I gave up this forum which brought out some negativity in me. (Give up something that you like, and that is exactly what I did)

With this being said. I am not coming back to this forum. I have found another place where there is acceptance and understanding and above all LOVE. Good bye all and God Bless each and every one of you.
 
Dave’s post is not uncharitable. He is just trying to make a point that CAF is not a bad thing and he thinks that it is not the kind of thing that people should give up for Lent since it actually helps one spiritually.
For example, with reading the bible - that’s not something you would give up for Lent, many people in fact take up reading the bible for Lent. I reckon it wouldn’t be a bad idea for some people to take up CAF for Lent.

Betra2000, you seem a little over-sensitive, after all from what I read it seems he is just putting forward an idea (that CAF is not like smoking or chocolate).
 
I AM BACK…after my last post in April, I was never going to come back to the forums again. But, I am back!!! HELLO EVERYONE!!!
