As it turns out, I’ll be giving up the Just Faith program I’m in on Catholic social justice for Lent. I didn’t really plan it this way, but they’ve sort of lost me.

You know, I had not been thinking about it, but now maybe I will.

And now I feel bad saying so out loud.
In 15 years I don’t think I’ve done the CAF Lenten Fast before, because the vBulletin forum was kind of addictive. But I have the feeling that giving up the Discourse forum will be pretty easy.

And I feel bad saying that.
(And I’ll have to make sure to pick up a more ascetic penance too)
Since I’m giving up for Lent, I thought I’d park some info here #AshTag :
  • Of course Sundays are part of Lent!
  • Lent is 40~ish days, and there’s nothing wrong with that
  • “Giving up something for Lent” is a personal pious practice, and is not binding under pain of sin. If you want to relax it on Sundays, that’s fine. If you want to relax it, revise it, or abandon it at any other time, that is also fine. (sin-wise)
  • For fasting and abstinence purposes, the day runs from midnight to midnight, in accordance with canon law.
  • Yes, the Easter Vigil satisfies your (Easter) Sunday obligation.
  • Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, even if it does get crowded.
  • Good Friday is not and should not be a Holy Day of Obligation, because it would be cruel to oblige the faithful to assist at Mass on a the day when it may not be celebrated.
  • For your breviaries: Ash Wednesday and ff should use week IV of the Psalter (easy this year)
  • Ordinary Time will resume on 10 June with the X week – There will be no IX week this year
  • The date to celebrate Ascension will depend on where you are.
Did I miss anything?
Oh, yeah:
Jesse Caught It

Also:
  • English and German are about the only languages where the name of the Resurrection feast looks anything like “Eostre” or “Ishtar” or any other pagan thing. In any decent Romance language the name is related to or the same word as is used for “Passover”
