When Fox News and talk radio host Glenn Beck comes to Washington this weekend to headline a rally intended to “restore honor” to America, he will test the strength - and potentially expose the weaknesses - of a conservative grass-roots movement that remains an unpredictable force in the country’s politics.

Beck, who is both admired and assailed for his faith-based patriotism and his brash criticism of President Obama, plans in part to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. as an American hero. He will speak on the anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech, from the spot where King delivered it.

Some “tea party” activists say the event, at which former Alaska governor Sarah Palin is also scheduled to speak, will have a greater impact than last September’s “9/12” march along Pennsylvania Avenue. Though the attendance figures for that anti-tax rally are disputed, it was the first national gathering to demonstrate the size and influence of the tea party movement.

It will be treated as follows:

MSM: If it’s a big crowd, they’ll show pictures of some small grouping or talk about how many nutcases are being drummed up by “racist hysteria”, and how dangerous it is for America to have “mob mentality” stirred up by “fearmongers” like Beck.

FOX: No matter what the size of the crowd, it will be hailed as evidence of the groundswell of public opinion against the leftist policies of this government.

It may be observed that the prolife marches are reasonably well-attended, but the numbers don’t even begin to reflect that actual numbers out in the public.

It isnt a tea party event.

The tea party rally is on 9-12 in DC.

My impression from what I have heard is that it is NOT a political rally. It is about upholding the basic principles of honesty and decency and those things on which the country was founded.

How could anyone perceive anything political about rallying with a controversial political commentator on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial?

Martin Luther Kings daughter is joining him.

Even though groups like FreedomWorks, The Federation of Virginia Tea Party Patriots, and Americans For Prosperity are organizing the event and Sarah Palin will be speaking, it is not a political event. 😉

They are FREE to speak there just as you are Free not to listen.

That is right.

Signs are not welcomed.

That is right.
Yup, the most polarizing and fringe figures in the American right promote the event over talk radio, the event is the subject of counter-protests by some of the most fringe elements of the left, it is discussed on all the political channels, it is supposedly in part about “reclaiming the civil rights movement” (a political movement), and it is on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Ted Nugent will be on hand to tell attendees about honor.

But Glenn says it isn’t political. Must be true if Glenn says so.

Why are you so afraid of Glenn Beck?

And if they prayed and God revealed to them a cure for cancer the MM would scream that it proved how racist the tea party is since more whites get cancer than blacks

No, I think it is Dr. King’s niece that will be there.

So far as I have been able to determine, none of Dr. King’s immediate family will be attending any gathering in DC that day.

He says it is about restoring honor. From what I have heard, he has most recently been saying that one of the things that this country needs is God. What possible fault can anyone find with honor and God?

Because many on the Left equate God with being Republican

For myself, I would attend a function on honor and God in an appropriate venue, with appropriate leaders. That would be a church, or a military cemetary or base, led by people who had devoted themselves to service of the country and devotion to Christ.

I wouldn’t seek honor or God with a shock jock with a divisive political radio show.

Honor and God are two aspects that almost certainly won’t be present, as they are as much strangers to Mr. Beck as they are to Ted Nugent.

While I do not agree with your premise, I have to wonder ~ it would appear that you’re OK with limiting your sources of information, even censoring them to achieve a pre-determined result ~ such as not interfering with your pre-determined point of view.

I trust you don’t consider such limitations or censorship a source of intellectual honesty because all it can possibly be is a source of validation of already determined positions. If scientists followed that model, we’d still be hearing that the world is flat. 🤷
