It’s funny, the other day on FaceBook I expressed my own opinion in a post, that I did not truly believe in the theory of global warming. This unleashed the wrath and fury of people who up to that moment I would have called friends. The attacks that they came at me with were 1st That I’m not educated. 2nd That I’m crazy and must have some form of brain damage. 3rd I’m suffering from hysteria.
This is the way they try to keep you from stirring the pot on this is topic: 1st attack you for not being as educated as them, trying to dumb you down. 2nd discredit you by claiming you’re not of sound mind, “Do you hear this crazy Guy?” 3rd to make you appear unhinged, Oh that’s just Walt going off again.”
I really find funny about the 3rd one is, I’m not suffering from hysteria, I’m not the one who’s running around screaming the sky is falling “in this case getting warmer”. All I did was state that I’m a non- believer.
Then it hit me, if I had posted that “I did not believe in God”, these same people would have said nothing, they would for the most part be quite happy with such a statement.
It was at this moment that I truly realized that this is being viewed and lived as a form of Religion, maybe not even being known to them as such.

Look at this way:

We have: God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
They have: Mother Earth, the Sun and the Ozone.

We have: The Apostles and the Saints.
They have: Scientist and Collage Professors.

We have: The Bible and Holy Scriptures.
They have: Reports, Bar Graphs and News Stories.

We have: The Holy Father and the Cardinals.
They Have: The President and the Politicians.

We have: Priest, Deacons, Nuns and the Religious
They have: Teachers, TV, Movie and Rock Stars.

We have: Mel Gibson.
They have: Michael Moore.

We have: The Holy Mass
They have: An Inconvenient Truth

We have: The Holy Eucharist
They have: Carbon Credits

We both feel that these items I have listed are the truths or key points of fellowship; we both preach and live these truths and that’s why this global warming theory has become “in a way” a new religion to many.
I must stress that I’m NOT trying to say in this post that global warming is real or not, I’m just shedding a little light in a fun way on what I see as similarities between our organized religion and a scientific hypothesis. So please no hate mail. :O)

God Bless

PS I’m selling some lovely Carbon Credits on Ebay, but hurry someone by the name of A.Gore is the current high bidder right now. Just joking, it’s a joke!! :O)

I’d be interested in your idea of what makes a religion a religion. I think yours might be a bit broader than mine.

Is this your idea of what passes for normative discussion of religion?

I don’t mind if you say global warming’s real or not. What I do kind of mind is if you say believers in global warming constitute a religious group. I certainly see similarities between those believers and believers in a particular religion, but I also realize I’m making comparisons between a group with religious beliefs and a group that doesn’t pertain to religious beliefs. I can make just as many comparisons between the governments of various countries and the various systems of leadership in different religious groups, but while those comparisons are useful and informative, I don’t make the mistake of equating the federal government with “the religious leaders of Americanism.”

If believers in global warming do belong to a religion, what religion would that be called? What about all the Catholics that believe global warming is actually happening? Do they have two religions- one being Catholicism, and the other being (whatever you call the other religion)? If that were the case, shouldn’t you be telling them they “cannot serve two masters” and they must pick one religion or the other?

There’s some issues with calling it a religion. This is where it goes. I wouldn’t take it there. Just saying.

Now just relax, If you read it, this was just for fun. They always bust us for having faith in God. I was just pointing out that they are also treating this GW as a faith. Agian it’s just for a little fun.

I must ask everyone to read post s-l -o- w-l-y and with a smile.

Global warming is a new religion in the same way Armageddon is a religion.

I think you’re assuming “Global warming” is tied into “new age” green theology… thing is, when the Sierra Club kicked in, they kicked out Christian environmentalists… and now they have the monopoly on it.

Scientific Progressivism is to blame for our quite likely blight… and yet the new scientistic progressivists align themselves with the neopantheistic environmentalists, to blame Christianity for it all…

it’s suckers like you who give them license! :tsktsk:

Well, right before Thanksgiving in 2009, it came out that only 60 scientists of 1,000 scientists believed in global warming.

And this one program…on the radio…said that most of our carbon dioxide comes from the oceans. I also am witnessing alot of geothermal activity below the ocean surface in many parts of the world. Iceland is literally the ‘cap’ of a magma tunnel going all the way down to the center of the earth…now there is some people to pray for …

I drive a jetta tdi…now I am finding out environmentalist somebodies exaggerated the carbon emissions by 350%.

Who do you believe?

Walter has a point…the environmentalist in charge of my area out back won’t let us trim tree branches on the other side of the fence so we can have more sunlight for our garden…who is more important…trees or people?

And where was all the money going to go to for Cap N Trade…alot of shady things under the trees going on …
Jesus said He would come into the world to remove the darkness…

Oh, alright, I read it… hmmm, knee jerk reaction afterall?

Still, it’s true, what you say… Environmentalism is a new belief we are all expected to have, and if not, we are acting ‘immorally’ - it’s a moral taboo to reject it, yet it is dodgily justified as definitively dooming… like much in science, there is much room for error. Yet intuitively, I can’t help but feel this amount of casual wastefulness is not (to catch a phrase) sustainable… and the risk is too much for me to laugh off, in this case

All I can say is, I always felt it was somewhat sinful to be so wasteful. And modern society is increasingly wasteful…

There are worse things to be proclaimed universal sins… 🤷

Dear Walter,

Fasten your seatbelt!

WE HAVE ANN COULTER!!!

They have Jon Stewart

I think we hear alot that isn’t true or only partially true…

To clarify, it was in California that the emissions were exaggerated by 350%…and the tweaks done on my car that make it expensive to maintain…and the mechanics figuring out how to get around the junk parts.

Junk parts…we might even be replaced …

It’s funny how one little post talking about GW will always, no matter how you do it, bring out such anger. Everyone who got angry, just relax, and just think a little before you tell me that I’m the reason for the troubles in the world by making you think a little outside the box.
I’m not mocking my faith, yours or anyone’s at all, but I am knocking the idea that a theory is to be taken as the Gospel. So please just relax, breath in slowly and remember we’re talking here and not attacking. Now breath out, and just try to r-e-l-a-x. please.

They always bust us for having faith in God. I was just pointing out that they are also treating this GW as a faith. Agian it’s just for a little fun.
Global warming is not an atheists and agnostics vs Catholics political standing. The issue is supported and opposed by people of all faiths.

You should also be careful with what you’re saying. Are you accusing Archbishop Celestino Migliore of treating global warming as a faith? After all, as the Permanent Observer of the Holy See at the United Nations, he has made many statements acknowledging the scientific validity and reality of climate change and global warming. Since Archbishop Celestino Migliore is the voice of the Holy See to the UN, I would imagine that the Pope agrees with the official statements made by the Archbishop. I don’t know how important it is for Catholics to walk in lock step with the Church on social and political issues, but it does not appear that you are doing so in this case.

OH GOOD GOD I GIVE UP!!! I’m going to go talk to the cat, it’s much less serious. Big smile folks, b i g s m i l e s.

:banghead: Not another new religion. :doh2:

I feel like I’m on stage, tapping on the microphone while asking is this thing on?? It’s funny how people pick the lines they want to read and then try to say that I’m now accusing the Church of wrong doing. Could you please just read a little more then just one line… I’m not saying anything about the Church… Hello “tap-tap”, is this thing on? Hey everyone please don’t forget to be good to your waitress, they’ve been good to you. Thanks for coming out, you’ve been great, Drive safely.👍

For what it’s worth OP… I took it as how I think you meant it… a joke. lol

Yes it’s just a light hearted veiw of GW, I myself feel that it’s becoming “LIKE” a religion to those who really follow it. The reason I say that is, look at how mad, upset or offended some get, if someone “like me” says I don’t feel it’s true.

I know if someone attacks Catholic faith I too get very upset, mad and offened. That’s what I was trying to show, that some feel so strongly about this topic, that even on here, this site; that** I’ve been getting very nasty, hateful and at times very off color emails about this post. **

Please don’t be so angry over this topic and don’t get to the point that you feel the need to be mean to someone for just having a different opinion. We as Catholics are suppose to be better theen that.
