Good observations.

There are holocaust deniers all over the place, so I’ve decided start a counter movement by becoming a Denier myself. I already have a beginning: a denial of man-caused global warming. I might move on by denying that the Crusades ever happened, and that European colonialism ever existed, and follow it by a denial of whites’ enslavement of blacks. Then I can deny that Europeans ever waged war against and displaced indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere. Then there are the Palmer Raids and McCarthy hearings that I can claim never happened. How about sexism? Surely the oppression of women never existed either.
Then there are the nukings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that never happened.
Some other things that never existed or happened:
The KKK
George W. Bush
The Inquisition
The persecution of Galileo
Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists
The Catholic Church and hence, Pope Pius XII
“World Opinion”
Maybe I can even put down “Denier” as my race on the census survey.
Man, this is great; I feel better already because there is no longer any reason for me to feel guilty about white man’s [specifically white Christian man’s] sins against humanity since those sins never existed.
I’m sure others here must feel the same way and can add to this list, and I welcome their (name removed by moderator)ut.
You forgot to add global warming to the list.

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.

Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922 , as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post - 88 years ago!

Do you have a reference for that?
Good question Hesychios.

“The Associated Press reviewed the Gores’ energy bills and reported that the family consumed 191,000 kilowatt-hours in 2006. This was considerably more than the amount of electricity used by the typical house in Nashville, about 15,600 kilowatt-hours a year.”

-Source: Fact Check.org.

******HOWEVER!!! *******

While the Gores consume a good deal of energy from their home, they also work from their home and purchase energy from renewable solar, wind and methane gas sources, so that pretty much kills that angle of rebuke at the Gores. The Gores participate in the green utility program and also invest in renewable energy projects worldwide. As for the size of the house, well the Gores are not renunciants but that’s not the topic of the thread.

This explains why small countries with substantially high ratios of coastline to interior (such as Denmark and the Netherlands) are so concerned about the phenomena.

Sufjon, don’t you think it’s a little premature to call me a friend, or rather call yourself my friend? Somehow I knew you wanted to drag me into a futile debate. I could copy and paste what MonteRCMS wrote in every post he made in this thread, but that won’t convince you, and nothing will convince me. You’ve fallen for a fraud and you’re trying your best to make me adhere to it. I’m heliocentrist, you’re geocentrist, if you’ll allow me the metaphor. Since you probably think there’s a causality link between human activity and global warming, what did our ancestors in millenia past do wrong to cause ice age? Rhetorical question BTW. Call it invincible ignorance or knowledge.

Riding the broom on us? So its ice chipping by winter and pumping water by summer?

You know what though there was an epidemic of Seals here last year, I never seen anything like that. More temperate waters probly I’m not sure. The Lobster are moving a hair up North due to warmer temps here. Fish that were commom to Virgina/Mayland area are up here in the Sound now. Year by year and very slowly, but its changing for sure.

We are no doubt our own worst enemy. There has never been a society which has destroyed the earth as we have. This will be our claim to fame in 2-thousand years when the kids read the history books. They’ll say, “Oh, those were the dummys that almost destroyed earth”. 😃 Thats “if” man makes it without Nuking ourselves out of a planet. Time moves on and the earth changes, were not much help either though. Its been taken for granted for sure.

You’d like to believe we are smarter than all this. But when you look at N Korea and Iran its hard to explain how.

You must be aware that a climate problem in one age does not have to have the same cause as a climate problem in another age. Either way, an ice age would be a good thing to avoid if one could. The biggest correlation that I see to current events to the last ice age is your neanderthalish reasoning.

As for being premature calling someone friend, for me there is never a bad time to be a friend. My friendship is unconditional, offered to everyone, not dependent on being reciprocal, and freely given.

Sufjon, I was gonna apologize for being harsh, but since you called me, or rather my reasoning “neanderthalish” I’m not so sure…😛 No, really, sorry for being harsh. Man-made global warming and all the catastrophe scenarios I find aggravating, which is why I responded the way I did. You should see Al Gore for what he is: someone who doesn’t live in accordance with what he professes to believe, nothing in this man is indicative of a frugal lifestyle, which he implicitly advocates for everyone.

Dear Robertanthony: I couldn’t resist the neanderthalish remark, but my remark was of course neanderthalish as well, so perhaps the two of us could get together and do a GEICO commercial or something. 🙂 Anyway, Al Gore is not my main reason for concern over climate change. I know you don’t seem to like him, but his endorsement of the cause doesn’t diminish the importance of the issue.

That doesn’t mean it’s not really happening, that just means the news article is old and irrelevent.

I don’t think the scientific evidence for global warming was available until the 1970’s. There will always be fluctuations but the trend is definitely upward.

I find it amazing that people think it is a fraud and a hoax. What do they think … people are laughing their backsides off over it? Profiting over it? What couild be the motive?
