Saint Malachy’s prophecy, where he named all future Popes, seems to have two Popes left, with Peter of Rome the last. Do any possible candidates fit the description of Gloria Olivae?? I know prophecy is a sensitive issue here, but historically since the list was “found” 500 years ago, has the Church reviewed this as a Revealed Truth? Cannot find anwer anywhere. Help!

I’ve heard that there are 2 Pope’s left, and also that there’s only one left, and also that JPII is the last.

Could y’all please provide some info or links for this info? I haven’t got a clue as to what you are talking about. Seems really interesting though.

The authorities in the Church would have to be brain-dead to approve something which implies that we are almost on the brink of the end of the world, as Jesus Christ has not said when He will return; even He did not know. So no authorities in the Church could possibly know either.

This kind of rubbish of pseudo-prophecy should be recycled for use in the lavatory, not treated as a reliable prophecy. Junk like this only brings true predictions into disrepute and contempt. ##

We should not believe everything we hear or read concerning purported apocalyptic prophecies, that is, end-time "“predictions”, except what is stated in the scriptures, because not even the angels of heaven knows when the precise end of the world will be, except God Himself.

I heard somewhere, (sorry I can’t remember where) that this prophecy was determined to anly date back to the 16th century when it was discovered. This was a fake to make some of the popes of that time appear to be part of the prophecy. The Church considers it a total fabrication.

No it is actually Gloria Esteban.

The Miami Sound Machine will be her conclave.

It would be better if people would just concentrate on living their lives as good Christians. Jesus will return, in His own time.

Gerry 🙂

The names he gave are very vague. It seems that it would be very easy to apply the name to the pope, no matter who the pope is.

The one that impresses me though is the one for JPII, “of the eclipse of the sun” or “from the toil of the sun”. Since JPII was born and I think elected as pope during a solar eclipse that is pretty amazing.

Right. And I’m going to pray for another 75 years of JPII’s pontificate right now!

St. Malachy’s predictions hold about the same level of predictability as Nostradamus. Just because he is a saint does not mean that he can predict the future. There have been many errors by saints.

That is correct. They are saints because of the heroic sanctity of their lives, not because they can infallibly “predict” the future or read minds.

I have to differ with you, Bob. The key word in the prophecy is SAINT Malachy. I read what the Saints write with more earnest reflection than when I read a newspaper or a sorry rag like the “Remnant”. And let’s not over look the fact that it’s NOT Saint Nostrodamus.

It’s one of those spurious, hokey Nostradamas “prophesies”.

It is true our Church does not like to recognise prophesy, but rather lets it unfold historically; however they did make Malachy a Saint. His predictions would fill volumes. The gift of prophecy is in our Bible. Kind of a catch 22. We cannot honor a Saint’s writings, but he could be right. God Bless all Popes, past, present and future, and the “sensitive” ones in this forum. IHS Daryl

Yes, They did make him a saint.

That does not mean that everything he said or did is correct, this goes with all saints.

Saints are not infallible.

Also this, so-called, prophecy has been proven to have come long after St Malachy was dead. The “prophecy” did not come from him.

Also if we know when the last pope will be then aren’t the words of Jesus wrong?

Luke 12
39 "But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
40 “You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

Well, technically we don’t know when the last Pope will be. JPII may reign for several more years, and his successor may have a similarly long term in office (then again, he may be another JPI :hmmm: ).

Not that I’m disagreeing with you, just playing devil’s advocate 😃

But when the last pope is elected then we will know the “hour” won’t we?

And if we are speaking technically, then technically the Vatican has said that this is not a prophecy and that this is not from St Malachy.

So, technically speaking, this is a non-issue.
