Gloria on Gaudete Sunday

I had a question. Yesterday during Sunday mass the priest had us recite the gloria. I know during advent the gloria is not recited and omitted. A parishioner asked the priest about this and he said it was because it was Gaudete Sunday? Is this true?

No, there is no Gloria on Gaudete Sunday.

There’s a rubric in the Roman Missal above the Collect (what we used to call the opening prayer) that specifically reminds the priest that the Gloria is not said.

He might not have seen the rubric. It’s an easy mistake to make.
