This is a recent phenomena that has been occuring in some churches where glittering dust particles appear on people’s hands during worship. One of my own friends (who is a genuine Christian and won’t fake anything for any purpose) experienced this glory dust during worship (and she was alone in her room when this happened). She said it happens often when she prays.

What do you make of this phenomena?

It’s glitter. Not the crusty stuff you get in kindergarten art class, but flecks of gold metal that rub off of bible page edges. You can prove it’s just metal flakes by looking at them under a microscope.

I’m not sure but it seems a somewhat popular claim in Pentecostal and Charismatic circles. A quick Google search shows the claims date back at least 12 years.

I’ve had it happen, 10/10 times i’ve been either praying the divine office (out of a breviary) or Lectio Divina (with a Bible in my hand), as has been said its just little parts of the lettering on the front of the Holy Bible.

That is if you mean just shiny little like dust particles, that seem to “glitter” when exposed to light? If you have a Douay Rheims, Clementine Vulgate, KJV or a similar bible, look at the lettering on the front, and compaer that effect to the effect of the dust left on your hands after prolonged reading of the Bible.

Thanks Apollos and Skeptic92 for your simple explanation of this phenomena!! 👍

I asked my friend about this, but she told me that she doesn’t have such a Bible or any such books with golden pages. So what could be the reason? It happens to her when she prays.

Have you seen it? Could you observe?

Dandruff?

another simple explanation can be this, it’s dead skin, we shed layers of skin every day, that mixed with sweat from holding your hands together for a prolonged period of time (or against the bible) could easily cause a similar effect. A mixture of sweat and dead skin flakes.

I didn’t see it. But she saw it and I know she is speaking the truth. She even tried to click a picture of it, although the pics were not taken from a very high resolution camera. She said, “it kinda is visible from certain angles only…so kinda hard to capture on camera, i could get only a few specks here and there…not the whole thing”. This dust, she says was on her “palms, back of my palms and the wrist”, “and it’s also not hard like our glitter that we get in the market its very very fine, almost powdery.”

Wait a mimnute, you say she was alone in her room and worshipping. Obviously she is not Catholic unless she was saying Mass in her room-which I would doubt. You also say she is a genuine christian. How can one be a genuine christian and not be Catholic? Doesn’t being a genuine Christian include being a member of the one church established by Jesus Christ?

Before I accept this phenomena I would like to see what investigation has been done into it. Protestants, especially fundamental evangelicals are noted for claiming miracles with no investigative substantiation to support the claims.

I am a Catholic and I worship alone in my room also. I am sure you know Jesus’ command to “go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father”. She is Catholic by the way, however it is a little complicated. Her mom is Catholic, dad is non-Catholic. But her dad allowed her to be baptized and raised Catholic. She attends both Catholic mass and her non-Catholic youth group called New Life Fellowship.

In the case of my friend, I completely trust her. She is not one who will lie about anything. She said that she saw the gold dust appearing on her hands and I believe her. My only question is, how could this have happened? Is it, as she claims, a way God shows her that he loves her?

For what possible reason would God want to put dust on people or objects? To show off His power over dust? To help stimulate janitorial services? To make people question His wisdom?

I’ll not address the fencing sitting issue other than to say that if your friend was truly Catholic as you claim she would not be involved in New Life Fellowship which claims to be a non denomimnational church based on reformed theology. Thus it appears to me that your friend has no inkling as to what it means to be Catholic.

Regardless, I again must ask the question. Has this phenomena has been subjected to investigative scutiny by competent authority? And as far as trust goes, I always say place your trust in God and require proof from everyone else.

By the way, How much of a friend is this? My discernment is that there is more going on here than just platonic friendship. I may be wrong on that but that is my discernment. Additionally, it is possible that you may be targeted for recruitment. I would urge caution.

My advice is not to believe her until proven otherwise by proper Church authorities, for you can never know where it is coming from. Remember there are always two possibilities-whether it is from God and not from God.

Question for you: I presume you are not going to the NLF, so how do you know what they are doing there?

Remain skeptical and continue praying for enlightenment and discernment.

Hello all,
I am the girl in question. 🙂 I am just friends with Wesley. It’s an entirely platonic relationship. We are in no way romantically involved. In fact I am engaged to a wonderful guy already.

And rest assured that I have no hidden agenda of recruiting Wes for anything. I believe in being loved by God and sharing that love with others.

And this glory glitter and gold dust incident had occurred thrice with me. It doesn’t happen like regularly. So the explanation of it being dandruff or dead skin cells mixed with sebum is ruled out. If it were all that, it would have everytime cuz I don’t lose my skin and get it back at other times. 😃

The only possible explanation from me for this is that God just wants to show me that I am loved by Him. I believe that we’re seated in heavenly realms with Christ already, as it is said in the bible. So this glitter is a souvenir of that place where streets are made of gold. 🙂

I was having this amazing time of talking with God, where He whispered His love for me. At that time I asked God to give me something to remember this moment by. And this is what He did. He made gold dust appear on my hands. It was not to show off His power or something. And the reason I shared this picture on my facebook was to prove to people that God does miracles even today. And I had no other motive, especially not to prove that that I was a big saint or something. I believe that I am the least among us all. But God loves me extra-ordinarily. I can never stop talking about His love. LOL. I can go on and on about it because I have had a first hand experience of it.

A friend of mine called Desmond offers this explanation - Could the appearing of Gold dust be a sign that God wants to give to Naomi that she is His beloved daughter in whom He is well pleased!? Remember God sending a Dove to descend and rest on Jesus!? It was a sign of the Holy spirit! The description of the New Jerusalem in in Rev 21:18-21 indicates that God is definitely fond of gold, silver, precious stones etc… so why not give His children a few?

I am not asking you to believe me. And I won’t be hurt by comments that say that I am a liar or have an overactive imagination because my identity is in Christ. He defines me and not what people say about me.

Thank you for reading this. 🙂

God bless.

Hi Naomi, 🙂

although I don’t think it’s the Church’s teaching that we’re already in Heaven with Christ (we - hopefully - go to Heaven when we die, and then our bodies are resurrected at the Last Judgement) - if what happened to you encouraged you in your faith, then I don’t see anything wrong with it 🙂 who knows, God could make this happen, - if He knew that it would have meaning for you. One time, my mom and I smelled incense very strong in the car when O Holy Night came on the radio (it was all secular songs before then, and this was Christmas eve).

God bless
