I am thin a rail, but I seem to have an obese inner child. My eyes are often larger than my stomach. So, just a question: I don’t do this very often but is it gluttony if i OCCASIONALLY indulge in half a bag of Oreos?

I think that gluttony consists of more than a single act. It is a building of one’s life around food and drink (and even other things, but usually food). Will I have enough? Will it be good enough to please and satisfy me? Will I make whatever fuss is necessary to get what I want?

A single half-bag-of-Oreos incident is not gluttony of itself. Gluttony is a lifestyle. Every day, I need a half bag of Oreos, and they have to be Oreos, not Hydrox or store brand, and I have to have 2% milk, not skim or whole, and it must be served at precisely 37 degrees in my favorite glass, or I’ll make your life miserable. Shoot, it could be 2 or 3 Oreos with all these requirements and still be gluttony.

If you’re going to have a half bag of Oreos, today’s the day - Mardi Gras! No more after Lent starts tomorrow! 😃

Is this a joke?

No, it’s not a joke.
OK. Gluttony, when it’s about food, is not just about eating to much. It’s about giving food too much attention. A dieter can be gluttonous. Just keep that in mind.

I don’t know how much half a bag of Oreos is (they come in boxes in Sweden). but it really shouldn’t matter. If you go and get some Oreos instead of lunch once a while I don’t think that’s a big deal. But if this half a bag of Oreos makes you sneak around and lie about it … I’d start taking it more seriously.

Reason and the virtues of Prudence and temperance are our guides…

i can understand the oreo thing…

one can easily sin by intemperance with them!

(i perfer to call the venial sins when one eats a bit too much --in relation to the virtue of temperance…)
