Hi,

When I went to my 2nd confession I said I commited gluttony, envy, sloth. But now I am worried that I have committed gluttony again. What should I do go confess it again, or is it forgiven since I went to my last confession? And can someone give me a clear idea on what gluttony is? Is it when you overfill yourself with food when you’re full? I went to wikipedia.com and it said there were five ways you could commit gluttony:

Praepropere - eating too soon
Laute - eating too expensively
Nimis - eating too much
Ardenter - eating too eagerly
Studiose - eating too daintily

Do these apply to gluttony are these all forms of gluttony, and are they sinful? I feel like I need to go to confession again now. I am always feeling scrupulous, about things. How can I stop feeling scrupulous all the time? Everytime I eat afterwards I think “Have I commited gluttony?” And I know that you aren’t suppose to repeat a sin in confession, it’s one of the commandments for the scrupulous, but do you think I should repeat confessing being gluttony? I am just worried I have done another mortal sin! I don’t even know it is venial but if it is can someone tell me? I haven’t commited any mortal sins since my last confession. But if you have answers for me I am glad to get replies back. And sometimes my body I hate it cause I think I am so fat sometimes but I only weigh 110 pounds and I know I am not fat my parents tell me I am not fat. I have had thoughts of throwing up after I eat but I don’t throw food up, I just feel like doing it sometimes after lunch at school I feel full. Is this a sin I have commited by not liking my body at times, and having thoughts of throwing up? Should I confess it, and is it venial or mortal sin? I am soooooo sorry this post is so long, I won’t make my posts as long anymore. Thank you and may God Bless you.

Dear Amy,

When we confess, we seek a firm purpose of commitment.
After your confession, did Father give you any guidance?
If you are unclear, you must not let yourself go into such musings. You should let this be something for confession, and not the peanuts here in the gallery to comment on, lest they are Priests who can guide you - hopefully PM.

Forums have a limit, and in this case, IMHO, you need to do a proper evaluation of conscience.

Go to your priest, and tell him this, even if not in confession- you must feel comfortable with your faith, and you should talk to him about this.

Praying for you on this intention

Can’t have too many peanuts either. 😃

Seriously, at 110 pounds, I seriously doubt if you have ever committed any mortal sins surrounding gluttony. 🙂

Hi Amy

My name is Marilyn and I too have issues with gluttony/sloth, etc. It is important to remember that you have to eat, and just because you are eating (in moderation of course) I personally wouldn’t think it’s a sin. But don’t take my word for it - talk to your Priest and explain everything and listen to him - and follow what he tells you. I promise that will help.

This worries me. Feeling that you might want to purge can grow to be something serious - please talk to your parents about this and perhaps have them take you to your Dr. At 110 pounds, you are certainly FAR from fat and I don’t want you to develop an eating disorder. Please talk to them and pray. Jesus can help us with anything and ask him to guide you and be with you.

I will be praying for you as well. 🙂

God Bless.

Ignore all these definitions. Gluttony is simply eating more than you need.

This lady has some good advice for you and your parents. I see two problems here and neither one is a sin. First of all you are on the verge of becoming scrupulous. Once in that trap it is hard to get out, so bring this up to your confessor soonest and ask his help. Be sure to make him aware of the budding scrupulosity because he may not otherwise pick it up. If he doesn’t help seek a new confessor. Second It sounds like you are heading towards being bulemic or anorexic, both of which are eating disorders. Now is a good time to talk to your doctor about this and nip it in the bud before it happens. Your parents are correct about you body size and I am sure when they understand what is really going on will see that you get good advice and help. Neither problem is anything to be ashamed of. They happen to a lot of young people. Only time its really bad is when they don’t seek help from appropriate adults. 🙂

Hi Amy,

I replied to your other post and I see you over here as well. Please don’t carry this alone…your concern goes beyond what you define as gluttony. At 110 lbs. you should not have such a poor body image. There seems to be other concerns. I hope that you read my other reponse to your post…My prayers are with you in the hopes that you speak with your parents. I’m sure that would be their prayers as well…God Bless…teachccd:)

Amy, have you spoken to anyone about this yet?

I dont know about your other thread, I am just checking in with you.

If you dont feel like talking about it, thats fine. Just know you can.

Stephanie you’re inbox is full and I can’t send you messages.

Amy
