The best reason I know of, to accept Jesus as Messiah,
is His breaking down of the barriers, created by the Law.
Neither Jew, nor Greek…etc.

The bringing of the good news to all people:

“Go into the whole world, and preach the good news.”
That there is one God, that we are created and
loved, by Him. Tell them of the Commandments,
given at Sinai, and My new commandment: "You are
to love one another, as I have loved you. Forgive your
enemies, do good to those who do not wish you well.
Take, and eat.
Go…baptize…

What I’m grateful to the Catholic Church for, is the
forwarding, thru the centuries, of the Synoptic Gospels.

Reading these, I can see what Christ asked of us.

[Beyond needlessly complex theologies, beyond
misemphasis - or the ignoring of the clear commands
of Christ: *take and eat, go baptize…by various
denominations, the words of Christ are there, for all to read.]

I’ve been trying to figure out why Jesus is Messiah.

The best reason that I can think of is:

Christianity brings the knowledge of the One God
to all men and women, and actively reaches out
to them:

“Go into the whole world, and preach the good news.”
“Always be prepared to give an account, for the
hope that is in you.”

I was hung up on two things:

-the stunning beauty of Judaism - it’s cherishing of
the holiness of the Name of God, and the evident
sanctity of some of it’s members…some of whom
I had the priviledge to know

-and, asking myself: What exactly has* changed*,
since Christ came into the world? Not a whole
lot, in terms of human behavior, from what I can see…

But the reality that kept nagging at me was this:

What about the rest of humankind? How was
the knowledge of the One God to be brought to
them?
Just as the Shepherd leaves the original flock -
to seek out the lost sheep - so God gave
us Christ, to seek out the reallllyyy lost sheep,
who didn’t even know that He existed.

It’s as if Christ said:
Don’t lead by example alone [Israel], actively go out and
tell the nations about My Father [the One God.]

For me, the search for the truth has been similar
to the “solving” of a Rubix cube…turning it this way
and that, until my “objections” could be addressed -
in such a way that I could maintain intellectual,
as well as spiritual, integrity.

And, speaking of “integrity,” it was the astounding
impact of:
…the Lord, our God, the Lord is One…
that has made this such a long journey.

For, to me, One and “integrity” mean the same thing.
So, why would God be 3 in One?

Just some thoughts, on the day after Thanksgiving.

reen12,

I’m glad to see you back. When you left I was saddened but I left you a reply on a thread hoping that you might browse and see it. if you did or didn’t I don’t know, but it appears that your retreat was time well spent. Below is a copy of what I wrote.

reen12,

Page 1 is always the best place to start and the best place to retreat to when things get confusing. Part of my daily prayer is from page 1, for not only myself, but for you, and every soul that we may come to Know, Love and Serve the Father completely. Maureen, we are all in this together we are all part of the Mystcal Body of Christ. We each have our own part to play and we are all on the journey at different rates of travel. The important thing is that we continue on the journey, hopefully learning from our mistakes, which sometimes means we need to revisit places we’ve already been like to page 1. I know it is frustrating when someone is not in the same place as we are on the journey. Trust me I’ve been frustrated by those who I have perceived as both being ahead of me and behind me on the path. I’ve learned things from both also. Just remember that since Christ ascended to heaven there is no one with all the answers, but God can choose anyone or any way to reveal things to us when he wants to so be aware at all times . As I said before:Unfortunately there are so many nuggets of insight and wisdom to be found and understood that it’s impossible to find them all within a lifetime. Don’t let this stop you from searching or continuing your spiritual journey. We should pray that God continue to push us and every person into a deeper knowledge and understanding of faith.

As for your Question Why would God be 3 in one? Well none of us will ever completely understand this until we get to heaven. But by reading Gn 1:26 It appears that God was more than one from before our begining but, always of one mind and purpose.

May God Bless and Protect Us All,
JLC

Dear Jlcastagna,

What a kind and thoughtful reply, to my opening
post. Thank you. :yup:

Would you understand if I said that I found
the concept of Three Persons, in One,* irritating*? 😦

That I find myself overwhelmed by the beauty of:
“Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.”

It’s so hard for me to get past that.

Additionally, I spoke with a person who was
catechized during the same time period, and
in the same school, fifty years ago.

Both of us had made the same assessment:

By the time these catechists got to “Jesus”,
they had spoken so much of “God” that we both
said: “Who is this Jesus, and what do we
need Him, for?”

It’s as if we were both *trained *toward monotheism,
in the sense that God is One…period, and not
Three Divine Persons, in One.

As I say, it’s hard to get past this.

And, I truely understand what you’re saying, here:

quote: Jlcastagna
Trust me I’ve been frustrated by those who I have perceived as both being ahead of me and behind me on the path
And, thanks for reminding me, that:
quote: Jlcastagna
…but God can choose anyone or any way to reveal things to us when he wants to so be aware at all times .
Thanks, again, for your gracious reply,

reen12,

Somewhere in the past I figured out that you were 5 to 10 years older than I am so, I too was catechized with the Baltimore Catechism. I guess I should thank the nuns who taught me for being more Christ centered. I’m actually Afraid to answer your doubts for fear of going off into tangents and getting in way over my head. If this happened I would probably end up confusing both of us more and I surely do not want that to happen. I will say that at some point in my life that I found the three in one concept irritating, how and when I accepted that it is true and that I will not fully understand it in this lifetime, I don’t remember. On the bright side (for me anyway) thanks for making me search for answers so that I may come to a better understanding of my faith. When I can give you some sort of concise and well thoughtout reply I’ll get back to you. Until then I’ll pray that each and every one of us come Know, Love, and Serve the Father more completely.

May God bless and protect us all,
Jlcastagna

Thanks for sharing that. I tend to sigh, heavily, and say
to myself: If God is Three in One, I’m hardly in a position
to protest the choice of the Master of the Universe.

The only analogy that makes the Trinity seem part of
the Wisdom of God, is the family:
First there is a husband and wife, and then there may
be a child - and, as the child reaches maturity, this
becomes fully reciprocated love.

That the procession of the Trinity is eternal, and how
that is possible [it’s sequential without* being sequential]
is beyond human reach, in terms of “understanding.”
I realize that, at least.

I appreciate your kindness. *

reen12,

So you like to eat popcorn and push peoples buttons. I’ll have to read your replies with a few more grains of salt. I might just have to keep the salt shaker next to the computer. Some for my popcorn and some for reading between the lines. Maybe I should buy some stock in Morton’s while I’m at it. Thanks for the laughs and keep me on my toes.

That is very funny!

Once in a while, I can’t seem to resist, posting with
tongue in cheek…so, yes, it might be wise to
keep the salt at the ready.

Best,

reen

BTW, I’ve read a lot of Tom Wolfe’s essays, and
phrases like: “It’s an art form!” are my tribute
to his skill, in evoking a mental image…hence,
followed by: [Pass the popcorn…]
P.G. Wodehouse also contains the mother-lode,
when it comes to the risible in life, IMO.*
