God abandon Jesus on the Cross

I was watching Mel Gibson’s Christ Passion when I hear commentaries telling when Jesus die, the Holy Spirit go away from him because He cannot dwell where is impure, because Jesus has receiving all sins from the world for sacrifice and that God abandon Jesus on the cross.

If Jesus lost his divinity, how the sacrifice had be acceptable?

As I catholic I knew He cannot, but it’s hard to explain for a sola fide beliver and for someone which treat the Holy Spirit like a God’s energy. I twist my face after hear that.

We dont lose our spirit when we sin, we turn from it… it’s always there to bring us back to God.

The Holy Spirit has to be able to be where sin is, if not how can we receive it in order to return to God?

Jesus didnt lose His Holiness any more then God had forsaken Him while He was on the cross. That was when God was His strongest, dying for the sins of the world, to bleed for us, so we can be Saved.

He didn’t, per se. God didn’t punish Jesus. Rather, He accepted Jesus’ sacrifice as satisfaction for the sins of others. Catholics don’t believe in “penal substitution”; that’s something that Calvin dreamed up.

He didn’t. Jesus was quoting Psalm 22. You might want to read it through to the end, to see what Jesus was reminding us.

Ask him to open his Bible to Mt 27:46, and in the spot where Jesus says this, ask him what the cross-reference right there in his Bible is. (It’s to Psalm 22:2.). Ask him to read the whole of the psalm, and ask him whether that psalm speaks of ‘abandonment’ or if it’s really all about ‘deliverance’.

The Holy Spirit has to be able to be where sin is, if not how can we receive it in order to return to God?

The Holy Spirit is “He”, not “it”. He is the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.
