2 Chron18:18-22 And Micai’ah said, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left; and the LORD said, Who will entice Ahab the king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one said one thing, and another said another. Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, saying, I will entice him.’ And the LORD said to him, By what means?’ And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And he said, You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go forth and do so.’ Now therefore behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets; the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.”
You’ll recall earlier in the passage that King Ahab (king of Israel) had consulted only those prophets that told him good things – how successful he would be in battle. He was more concerned about being given prophecies that said what he wanted to hear, that would support the plans he desired and had already decided on, than he was in hearing the truth.
Sometimes God gives us what we want!
It’s only under pressure from King Jehoshaphat that Micaiah is brought in and consulted. Notice the fairness of God. He actually has Micaiah inform Ahab that God allowed lying spirits to “inspire” the other prophets.
