I’m really mad at myself and need some insight. Two days ago I thought I had a lot of signs of Gods existence and I was filled with joy and peace. Yesterday and today I again struggled with belief in Gods existence and I’m so upset that I can just take this to heart and believe without reservation. Is this normal? Does true belief and faith take time?

Absolutely. Persevere, and keep going. I will be sure to pray for you.

Keep a journal and write down what happens when you feel the positive stuff.
And yes it is normal to have aridity in prayer life which could be what this is about, I don’t know if this is complete doubt in God’s existence but it could be a temptation? I’d say just ignore it an persevere. How about asking God to help you? If you feel silly doing that that’s fine, do it mentally. Feeling silly praying can happen now and again. Keep on praying and read the Bible if you can so many people believing can make you feel better too. I’ll pray for you too

I will do so! Thank you! I really appreciate the thought out response and will do my best to incorporate this!

I believe in a personal God who has talked to me. I also believe in a personal devil who knows just how to tempt me in the most effective (for him) manner.

When you feel doubt, that is your devil talking to you.

Yes, indeed. You may have to recall back to the truths that have led you to the Truth.

But keep going, pray often, and I think everything will be fine. I personally think you’re already a believer!

Thank you it’s true I was kind of holding back out of fear but I’ll take the blinders off!

There will always be doubts. I have doubts all the time but that’s where faith does come in. On days when I doubt a lot I just talk to God and tell him that I’m going to keep holding on no matter what.

St Mother Teresa struggled with doubt and spiritual emptiness a lot. But she persisted. One of my favourite quotes from her is “Let us free our minds from all that is not Jesus. If you find it difficult to pray, ask Him again and again, “Jesus, come into my heart, pray in me and with me, that I may learn from you how to pray”.

Just ask Jesus to come into your heart when you have doubts. He will take care of you

Remember the simple prayer of, Lord I believe, help my unbelief

Hi struggling. Glad your keeping the good fight. We all struggle from time to time. Here is some insight about faith that might be helpful to you.

There are 4 kinds of faith. Each kind is very important but each one is a stronger form of faith than the last. Best to have all of them.
  1. Faith by others- seeing that man woman dedicated to God is often a strong pull to inspiring faith.
  2. Faith in knowledge. The faith that comes from looking at the logical facts about this world we live in and how God plays a role.
  3. Faith in doing -. There is a beautiful faith in doing works of spirituality. Helping the poor or doing your day to day job but with Christianity in mind.
  4. God is a part of me. This faith is the belief that God is piece of ones heart that is missing. Nothing can be done unless it is with God. One would rather die then be without this form of faith.
Hope this helps. 😉
