God and us - other names in Heaven?

I had heard a CA program quite a while back and one of of them it was said, almost in passing, that God has an unrevealed “real” name that we don’t know because if we did we wouldn’t even be able to pronounce it. Also, on another show, I heard a reference, from Revelation I believe, that when we get to heaven we will get new names specially chosen just for us.

Does anyone know anything more about this? Is there any truth to it. I wish I knew which shows these were on because then I could research myself, but as it is I hope one of y’all have some idea.

OK, I am a little clearer on some of this. Revelation 2:17:

'“Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the victor I shall give some of the hidden manna; I shall also give a white amulet upon which is inscribed a new name, which no one knows except the one who receives it.”

Is this to be taken literally or is it just a metaphore for rebirth in Christ?

Also, I still don’t know any more about the possibility of an unrevealed name for God…

I’ve heard this before,too, but can"t give you any Biblical citations. It was from some book my friend gave me. I know, super specific sorry!

A lot of God’s names are descriptive. (Well, actually, I guess “I AM” is descriptive, too.) Savior. Redeemer. Love. The Word. The Father. The Son. The Holy Spirit. The Trinity. And so on…

Well, logically, every single one of us has had God do something special for us which He has not done for anyone else in the same way. So the new Names for God might well be something like “He Who Made Me Think Twice on January 2, 1978”. Or they might otherwise be indicative of the way each of us, being created different from anyone else, has been given knowledge by God of a part of Himself which He has revealed to noone else in exactly the same way. So it might be something like “He Who Occasionally Makes the Sunset Turn Exactly the Color of the Hibiscus in My Front Yard, Even Though He Has Several Zillion Galaxies He’s Working On and I’m Just Some Chick”.

I am being very inadequate at thinking of good names, but you get the idea.

When I read this verse in today’s Office of Readings your thread immediately came to mind.

*Revelation 19:11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 19:12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name inscribed which no one knows but himself. *

God has many attributes which are also known as God’s names, most of them are descriptive, so that we could know Him better and love Him better. Christian God’s names/attributes are as under:
Characteristics of God the Father (taken from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism)
He is:
a) a spirit (John 4:24)
b) eternal (Ps. 90:1-2)
c) unchangeable (Ps 102:27)
d) omnipotent (all powerful) (Matthew 19:26)
e) omniscient (all knowing) (Ps 139:1-4)
f) omnipresent (present everywhere) (Jer. 23:24)
g) holy (Lev 19:2)
h) just (Deut 32:4)
i) faithful (2 Tim 2:13)
j) good (Ps 118:1)
k) merciful (Ex 34:6-7)
l) gracious (Ex 34:6-7)
m) love (John 3:16)

Characteristics of Jesus (taken from Martin Luther’s Small Catechism).
Jesus is God:
a) Jesus has divine names (Romans 9:5)
b) Jesus is eternal (John 1:1-2)
c) unchangeable (Hebrews 13:8)
d) omnipotent ( Matthew 28:18)
e) omniscient (John 21:17)
f) Jesus does divine works, which only God can do: He forgives sins (Matt 9:6), He created (John 1:3), He will judge (John 5:27), He preserves (Heb 1:3)
g) Jesus receives divine honor and glory (i.e., is worshipped) (Heb 1:6)

Jesus is man:
a) He is called man in the bible (1 Tim 2:5)
b) he has a human body and soul (Luke 24:39)
c) has human (but sinless) feelings: hungry (Matt 4:2), wept (John 11:35), thirsty (John 19:28)
