Among the angels, created immaculate and enlightened, God was King of the realm, and Satan was a usurper who lead many angels astray into their own camp apart from God.
Here on Earth, among men, created conspicuous and darkened, we are in enemy territory. Satan is (though not ultimately) ruler of this world, and God has come as the usurper.
Thus God is both defender of His kingdom and liberator of His opponent’s. Love is not content with preservation, but is contagious and offensive.
