Well, my SPECIFIC gang member is fictional.

But yeah, I know what you mean. Unfortunately.

Luck plays a role in life. Perhaps your misreading it, or maybe we view the word in different way. Regardless, I think that luck plays a role in life, and maybe you don’t. This isn’t an issue where we can convince the other of being wrong.
Forget about one proving the other wrong. You call yourself Catholic, correct? The official teaching of the Church is that there is no such thing as luck. If you believe in luck, you are believing something contrary to Church teaching.

Yes, I’m sure that luck is really the root of all Catholic teachings. Forget everything else they teach, it boils down to whether or not you think that there exists something called, “luck”.

I never said I worship luck, or anything like that.

What I said was that luck plays a role in life. Boarding a plane that will go down-that’s bad luck, not the will of God.

Next time I go to confession, I’ll tell the priest that I think luck plays a role in life. I’m sure he’ll break out the excommunication stick and beat me with it.

So you think there are things God has no control over? Maybe I’m missing something. That is definitely contrary to Catholic teaching.

What I think is that God isn’t a cosmic puppet who controls every aspect of your life. Can He? Yes. Does He? No.

God is the Puppetmaster! evil laugh

If He is, then He has finally decided it is no longer “Beat CountrySinger Up” time!

On a more serious note, let’s respect Kimothy’s grief and not get into a debate.

On the contrary Countysinger, we are respecting her grief. Debating if luck has a purpose or anything is not in any way disrespectful to her.

Except, of course, that it completely derails her thread and disobeys the rules of the site about not derailing people’s threads, and so should be posted as a separate thread.

The problem I have with this is that it seems to imply that God only kills those who have learned all their lessons, and if that’s true there would be nobody in Hell.
Unforatunately, there will always be some who harden their hearts and choose to separate themselves from God. Since all time is present to God, He knows their choices.

For those who love, believe and serve God, he is not killing us, he is allowing us to born into Heaven.

I don’t know if “luck” is the right word but Rascal is right.

God typically plays with the rules of physics and the limits of human bodies. Very rarely does He perform miracles like growing limbs or spontaneous cures of diseased organs.

Natural order made the OP’s friends die before her. The organs didn’t mesh and things didn’t work out either in their body or in the donor organs. God let nature happen. In some ways it was “luck” who got what organ and what the body did with it.

God gives us the needed grace for salvation. It dosn’t make those who’ve died younger greater sinners or somehow more blessed, it just is.

The real decision is what OP does with this knowledge. In noticing the deaths she may be called to form a support group that helps other transplant recipients learn to cope with death. She has been enlightened about the real pain that it causes. Some are called to fighting cancer or autism or a blood disorder because of someone of themselves or someone they know.

Also the OP should look into therapy for people with survivor’s guilt. It is a valid but disordered view of the world around her (just as much as hating to be a transplant recipient would be).
