The more I’ve studied the history of the Catholic Church, the more I’ve come to realize that the greatest natural gift (His Love and the guidance of the Holy Spirit being Supernatural Gifts) that Jesus gave His Church was the Papacy and the college of bishops. I read about the numerous heresies that arose, Arianism and Donatism for example, and see that, with all their human weaknesses, it was the popes and the ecumenical councils that helped keep the Church from splitting into numerous little segments, each searching within themselves for guidance.

So, instead of being defensive of our history of popes, we should thank them, and of course Him, for the glue that has kept Christ’s Church together.

Yea no offence to Peter but he appeared to he one of the most hopeless dudes in the whole bible - sinking under the waves because he didn’t have enough faith, telling Jesus that He must not go to His death, cutting off that guy’s ear, denying Jesus 3 times, running away from Rome, etc., etc. Yet he was also the one who said to Jesus, “You are the Christ”, and he ended up doing an excellent job as our first pope.
No human would ever have picked him. But God’s foolishness is wiser than man’s wisdom. I don’t know how God did it but I’m glad He did. Thank God!

I agree with all of your views on Peter. I’m so glad a theory I had about Peter the Rock has never taken root. I hypothesized that when Jesus renamed Peter, He had a sense of humor, and He was actually describing Peter’s ability to float. “You are Rock….”😛

Boy, I’m glad that theory never flourished!
