How did He tempt Jesus? He gave Christ free will like the rest of us. If Christ had not possessed free will, He would not have been all God and all man. In that case, his sacrifce would have lacked the significance it has. God knew His son would be tempted, but God the Father did not tempt His Son himself. In the same way, when we are tempted, this is God permitting the devil to tempt us. Was there a particular passage you were focusing on?

Christ was human and divine. Christ’s human nature was completely subjected to his divine nature/will, so although he might be tempted, he couldn’t sin. I just did a horrible job explaining that.

I am not sure what you are referring to. What jumps to my mind is the temptation in the desert but you can’t be referring to that because that was the devil not God who tempted.
Please explain what you mean. Please explain how you came to the idea that God cannot be tempted or tempt.

Hmmmm, I am curious from the little godsent wrote, how you arrived at your question. Also, as has been echoed here, God did not tempt Christ, Satan did. God allows us to be tempted, and Christ perfectly demonstrated how we are to handle temptation. Remember in the Our Father we pray “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”…Temptation cannot be avoided forever in entirety, but we pray to God to deliver us through Grace from sinning as a result of the temptations. It doesn’t seem an odd notion to me that God tempts no one. He does “test” people, however. For example, Abraham with his son and Moriah.

What do you mean by your last sentence??? Jesus wasn’t tempted to evil by God. Satan did, but God allows temptation. Thanks and God Bless.

It was a question directed to the original poster on this thread. I wanted to know what they meant when they stated that:
It sounds like they are saying that God tempted Jesus, because God is the antecedent for the pronoun. So I wish to know what verse of the bible or story they are thinking of to say that. Offhand, I could’t think of a verse in the bible that would lead someone to infer that God tempted Jesus.
I did understand what verse they meant when they said:
So I provided the verse for that, because someone asked for the verse. Sorry to be confusing. Hope this helps clear it up. I myself don’t think God tempted Jesus.

God allowed Jesus to undergo temptation from Satan, just as all humans do, but God himself did not tempt him and does not tempt us. May I ask the source of your statement?

Guys godsent is a friend from the UK,he has been confronted on another board by a Muslim who is attempting to veer him away from his Catholic faith.I have dialoged with godsent for a while and asked him to post some of the questions he has after the Muslim poster gets him confused.The Muslim claims to have been Catholic for 20 years.So please answer him he is 16 and needs some support in his faith.
