God created time and morals

Okay this is a bit silly but for some reason this really made me consider the immenseness of God.

I was having a discussion with my 14 year old son about the fact that God has always existed. He wanted to know who created God, when God’s beginning was. I explained that God has always existed and that God created Time. Before he did so there must not have been any linear progression of events like we have now. Once I said that, I was just awe struck.

I don’t know why but the fact that God is not only not limited by time but created time amazes me.

Then as the conversation progressed we got onto the subject of right and wrong and I pointed out that it was God who created morals, right and wrong. i don’t know why but that suddenly struck me as amazing.

Sometimes when we discuss the fact that God asked the Israelites to do things that from our persepective seems wrong, we are so busy justify his actions that we forget that this is the being who defined right and wrong.

You are probably all thinking that I am silly to be awed but such a common sense idea as the fact that God created Time and morals but I can’t help it.

Have you ever considered just how immense in power our God is and what made you think about this?

No, I don’t think what you said was silly. You’re absolutely right.

If an adult started an intelligent conversation with me about these things, I probably would have reconsidered the possibility of God existing much sooner. At the time I was agnostic; I did not believe in God.

Your child needs real answers if they will ultimately make the faith their own. This culture is very difficult to live in. There are likely many forces at work challenging his beliefs. I encourage you to build on these conversations. They are real opportunities for both you and him to grow in the truth.

You have had a deeply spiritual experience. I think that the immenseness of the experience to you has been deeply moving as is to be expected when we actually encounter even a tiny piece of the immenseness that is the reality of God.

Perhaps, before, it was more of a “thought” to you, but now you have come face to face with the reality of what God truly means your understanding has been changed in a very deep way. That is wonderful! How lucky you are!

I think all of us come upon this understanding in a different way. I am still grappling with it myself, but I think I understand what you mean. And I applaud you for sharing.

Can God’s existence really be considered an explanation of existence, if his own existence is unexplained? Does this not just move the mystery one step further back?

My 14 year old son is unique among my sons in that he enjoys asking questions about morals, God and wants to know the whys behind my answers. This is both frustrating and rewarding. Sometimes, like my above posts he actually is the catalyst for my understanding something on a deeper level that I already felt to be true.

Teenagers. You got to love them.
