I am a big fan of hip hop. I am sort of rapper myself. I have battle rapped at my school dances. My favorites are Eminem and Fat Joe. But I wouldn’t know anything about hip hop if it weren’t for gospel rap. Thats how I got into hip hop. My inspirations are GRITS, T-Bone and tobyMac. I just wanna get some insight on how people feel on hip hop and gospel rap.

Yeah, I beat you in that Battle Rap, remember? But then I lost to Papa Doc. GRITS is cool. So is KJ52, Manafest, Benjamin, and Snoop Dude…

Just kidding except for the GRiTs part…and Snoop Dude from Ghostwriter.

I’m so happy to see this thread - I was actually thinking about this very thing last night. I currently work in entertainment business management and the music industry and see a lot about hip hop in music trade magazines - but I don’t get it. I’m old (47) and it just goes right by me. But I’d really like to know more about it but don’t know where to start. Also, next year I’ll start teaching middle or high school and I really want to be able to relate to the kids. Any help would be appreciated. 😛

I’m young (28) but I still don’t get it. I am glad to hear that you like hip hop and rap and stuff while still serving God. Glad to see someone combine the two.

I like every kind of music. I think that if a person is truly talented that they can really praise God in any kind of music well. I hate it though when people do Christian music for the sake of making a song about God, but the music is no good! God in hip hop is fine by me. Have you heard that song “Can I live” by Nick Cannon?

Thank you beckyann – That Nick Cannon song “Can I Live?” is terrific! I listened to it online at nickcannonmusic.com

(The song took a while to load on my computer (56k modem) … what I did was just let it stutter through while it was loading, then reloaded the page and it played smoother each time I reloaded…)

Anyway, it was worth the wait – the song is awesome.

(Oh, by the way, the video is on his site too – I didn’t attempt it with my slow connection.)
