How do you really feel about the idea? Do you fear it can become an obsession?

I have no problems with the idea. After all, God should be central in the marriage itself. Being in the marriage bed is only an extension of that.

Interesting concept for a poll. I voted ‘never’. AFTER, sure. Not during…which is why perhaps the church seemed to just ‘tolerate’ sex way back when…that intense experience can take someone’s mind, body, and spirit away from thinking about God for a little while when you are so focused on your spouse…does your spouse become an idol at that point?

You mean some of you have enough blood left in the brain for cognitive thought? Personally, all my blood seems to be dedicated to other areas.

I voted Never. Unless I could count, “my goodness(or God) that feels wonderful.”

There is a blessing priests can give to a couple’s marriage bed.
God is responsible for creating the marital act when he made us. If there was something wrong with it, he could have never made us this way, God being perfect.
I don’t completely understand the question though, which on the face of it seems like asking about God in the family car.
I don’t see anything bad about feeling wonderful in the right circumstances. We can feel wonderful for example when we hold our children. I see though that this question can raise complex feellings in us.

While I may not quote chapter and verse of church teaching during the marital act, I certainly know what they are and we follow them. God is the author of life and of the marital act, so he’s there whether you know it or not or think about it or not. I know there are couples that pray before they engage in the act. How beautiful is that?

I didn’t vote in the poll at all… it’s a bit silly. I know the rules, we follow the rules…

I didn’t reply, but I agree with Jennifer above. I know Church teachings on marital sexuality, and my dh and I do our best to apply them. Is that what you are meaning, TLM? If we as Catholic spouses follow Church teachings, in our own sexuality with our spouses?

My (new) husband and I do our best to remember to pray prior to engaging in the marital act, asking God to help us to better image the divine life and to be that self-giving love. We haven’t always managed to do it, but we certainly try 🙂

Hmmm…I can see the potential for scrupulosity, but I do not think there is anything wrong with thinking about God and reminding ourselves what kinds of acts we should or should not engage in according to Church teaching. However, I do not believe it should be all we are thinking about from beginning to end.

Hmmm…well I’m not really afraid of it becoming an obsession, but I do often find myself thinking of how God has blessed me with such a wonderful husband or that God has answered my prayers/provided for my dreams in ways that I would never have fathomed…👍

I guess I am lucky in that my I am blessed enough to be acutely aware of the fact that DH would not be such a HUGE part of my life without God. We had been friends for ages, but DH was much too conservative and undateable for me! Yes, I had actually told him that at one point he would never be able to find a wife…😃 Also, I’m sorry if this is TMI, but DH is sooo incredibly different (read: better!) in bed (and in every way outside of it, too!) than anyone else that I have ever had a relationship with that it is hard not to remember God’s role in our lives. (to be nice, I was once a “wild child”)

Lucky me!
