I’m actually a cradle catholic+

But seriously, we all know that Jesus the Christ was what we call “Jewish”.

So if Jesus is Lord and Jesus is Jewish, doesn’t that make God; Jewish?

The Sabbath is Saturday. God doesn’t change the days of the week, that would be man.

God is Catholic because Jesus is Catholic and started the Catholic religion.

The Sabbath is indeed Saturday.

Were you under the misapprehension that Catholics observe the Sabbath?

Something I’ve been wondering about is, if the Jews are God’s chosen people, why would He start a new religion? I guess the question is why we have catholicism instead of christian judaism.

Are you saying God is “catholic” as in Universal religion or are you saying God/Jesus are Roman Catholic?

Everyone is to keep the Sabbath +
It’s part of The Law

Where did Jesus ever say He was starting a new religion?
But obviously God did choose the Romans to spread The Word. He picked a country that looks like a boot.
Jesus would obey the Sabbath. He was The Law.

Do you know any other religions that have priests offering the sacrifice of the Mass? Jesus is the High Priest, so, of course, is Catholic. (Or Orthodox)

Jesus is the Law and as such, we celebrate the Lord’s Day, not the Sabbath.

When He told St. Peter He would build His Church on him.

Heh. 😃

Until He rose and fulfilled the Law. Then we are commanded to observe His Resurrection on Sunday.

Christianity is completed and fulfilled Judaism rather than being a truly ‘other’ or ‘new’ religion. Modern Jews are those who do not accept this completion and fulfilment and believe we are still awaiting it.

Religion refers to how man relates to and understands God. The Father accordingly has no religion, neither did Jesus, being also God.

Someone else who knows Philosophy and Jesus Christ the Jew, please reply.

Jesus was a Jew. King of them in fact. Isn’t that what Pilate put on His Cross? And wait, why did the other Jews, the scribes, pharisees, etc… want Jesus to die?

Catholic means Universal. So yes, God is Universal.

But if you follow the God of Abraham and Jesus the Christ, Jesus was The Word-which gave us Life and Law.
oy vey.

Time to go to compline!
God bless +

I like your response. You are seeking God obviously. Other’s follow blindly. Amen!

I think the Romans wanted Jesus dead because he was considered subversive. He raised Lazarus from the dead…and the Roman authorities would have none of that. The Sanhedrin wanted him crucified because he challenged the existing power structure. Also, according to Caiaphas the High Priest, he blasphemed while being questioned. Those are some reasons some wanted Jesus dead. Funny how the most religious didn’t recognize God in their midst.
Bksumm

I like your answer! I have never heard anyone say that christianity is “completed and fulfilled Judaism”.

So, Fisha, what are you trying to prove by saying that Jesus was Jewish, and therefore God was Jewish? That you guys MESSED UP?

What exactly are you getting at?

Jesus was Jewish because His mother was Jewish. Jesus was (is) divine because His Father was (is) divine. He has both natures.

Jesus said in Matt 5:17, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill. (emphasis mine.)

The Church is the fulfillment of the old covenant. In fact, covenant and testament are the same word. So the new covenant is the New Testament.

I was wondering the same thing, in essence.

Perhaps he/she is attempting to create an open dialogue that tries to reunited Catholics with their “older brothers in Abraham.”

Perhaps he/she is trying to be ecumenical, trying to fix what he/she perceives as a lack of communication or trust between us Catholics and our Jewish brethren (and vice versa).

Or he/she might just be trying to convince some of us to convert to Judaism because that has worked for them and they want to share their positive experience (perhaps faultily assuming that it would have the same positive effect on everyone else as it had on them).

Regardless of intention, however, it is an interesting topic.

Excellent post, in my opinion and the opinion of many here 👍

The Sabbath is still Saturday. I think it sometimes means seven. But I’m not Jewish, I’m a gentile. Besides, the Jewish Christians were celebrating (after their Sabbath observances) The Lord’s Day. Acts 20:7 says, “On the first day of the week when we gathered to break bread…” That is a reference to the Eucharist. Also, if you look at the Road to Emaus story, you will note that it occurrs on the first day of the week, (the actual day of the Resurrection). Jewish people are still to observe the Sabbath, because they haven’t accepted that Jesus is the new Moses, and the Eucharist is the new Passover meal. 1 Cor 5:8 “Let us, therefore, keep the feast…”

I am also a cradle Catholic. Before Adam & Eve, what was God’s race? Zilch. He created us so he transcends race. And he chose the Hebrews/Jews/Israelites to be his people. So what? They rejected his Son, humiliated, tortured, branded him a criminal and killed him.

The Sabbath is Saturday. Yes, we all know that. What is the point? Didn’t you know that the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath? Didn’t you know that after Christ ascended to heaven, Christians observed the Lord’s Day (Sunday) instead of Sabbath(Sat)?

This statement needs a lot of qualification. For one, the Romans, not the Jews, tortured and killed Jesus. As for the participation of Jews, it was a particular group, not the entire Jewish people. Statements like yours, written as is, serve no good purpose.
