Ugh! After haing our hopes up high most of the week that maybe, FINALLY we were going to get a break from at least some of our troubles, God let us down, again! God put another interview to a job right in front of our faces and it fell through! :crying: It would finally bring us in enough money that my husband wouldn’t have to work two long hard jobs anymore. We aren’t after wealth, just affording the basics on one salary. 😦 Why give him the interview at all? Why get our hopes up yet again to just take them away. This has happened dozens of times in our marriage already. 9 years of poverty, childlessness, loss of jobs, loss of a child, loss of faith, marital troubles, severe mental illness, sicknesses, death after death, and more. I can’t take God anymore He’s just so mean to us sometimes. I know we aren’t supposed to think that way but it’s hard not to. I know the old “well God has something better in store then” that’s a bunch of nonsense cause in 9 years we’ve never gotten the better in store for us. I’m just so angry right now. This is going to be a ****** Easter for sure, but it won’t be the first holiday spent in tears. I just can’t go tonight for fear of just loosing it. Hopefully I will get there tomorrow. I just go because I have to. I don’t want to worship a God that is so mean to us. I don’t want to commit sins though. 😦

First of all, I am sorry your are going through these struggles. I tend to agree with you on the “God has something better for you” being a throw away, at least when it comes to this life.

God is not mean to us. Humans are mean to ourselves. God gave us free will. That free will was abused by our first parents and virtually every human since then.

I hope that you can go to Church tonight. Perhaps hearing the passion of our Lord might be helpful to your perspective. Jesus did nothing to deserve what happened to him…the whipping, the crown of thorns, the ridicule, the crucifixion. There is meaning in his sufferings, namely our salvation. There is meaning in our sufferings too, if we unite them to Christ’s (i.e. offer them up).

Praying for your family.

The whole “God has something better for me” spiel isn’t just some meaningless or stupid saying. It is true, even if that’s hard to believe or accept. Or are you saying that you know better than God what it means to suffer? As we begin the Holy Triduum tonight, remember how God gave up his son and suffered and died on a cross for humanity’s sins. That’s incredible love.

Praying to God isn’t some sort of panacea that will solve all your problems. That’s not how he works. While you are interesting in something that’s short-term, relief from poverty - and that is by no means meant to trivialize your suffering - God is interested in the long term: the salvation of your soul. And God’s plan for you is unique, and apparently it involves significant suffering on your part.

Just keep faith in God that things in the long term will be good, and keep living your life as well as you can. And it can’t hurt to pray to God for relief from poverty, just don’t expect it to work like magic. But if you keep faithful, your reward will be bountiful in heaven.

Praying for you and your husband.

God gives God takes God’s name be ever Blessed
Please read the story of Job in the bible…

The test of faith is not when you have everything. It is easy to be faithful when you have a wonderful marriage, children, good job, wealth, health…the real test of your faith is when you do not have anything but still you choose to love Him and trust Him and Hope in Him.

Our life here on Earth is just temporary. It is just passing and nothing is permanent.

Lord, I do not know what will happen tomorrow but thank you, Thank your Lord for today!!!

My relationship with God is strange. I have never believed He likes me as an individual. He likes everyone therefore I’m included, but my life has definitely not revealed God’s personal love or favor towards me. I’ve suffered a lot all my life, but ever since I converted 16 years ago my life has been on a downward spiral. I still believe the catholic faith is the true faith, but I sure don’t feel happy about it right now. 😦

Dear One,

I am so sorry for your struggles. 😦

Sometimes it does seem like everything comes falling down on top of us, all at once.

Unite your struggles and sufferings with Our Lord’s on the Cross. Offer yours to Him, at the foot of the Cross.

Prayers said for you and your DH.

((Hugs)) :hug1:

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom in your time of need.

Try to think about the things you are thankful for. I bet if you sit down, you could write at least 10 things down.

It’s not good to feel sorry for oneself, though I’m guilty of it often.

If you’re still having trouble. Take a look at Jacky’s story:

Tturn it around.
Make sure you daily ask “Lord, what would you have me do for you today?”
Ask less, and offer more.
God is not the ultimate granter of wishes. He is seeking a relationship with you that is more than “here’s today’s problem, please fix it”.
I know this sounds harsh, but truly, as Jamal says, giving thanks continually will give you a better perspective, and make your problems bearable.
Try it. What do you have to lose?
Be assured of our prayers.

My prayers for the healing of your heart. At this time, most of what we say may not take hold but give it some thought and seek the Lord.

First, God loves everyone especially those who may seem like they’re undergoing trials. When you feel the most beat, when everything seems against you, imagine what Jesus must have felt like carrying His cross through Jerusalem on Good Friday. Just a few days prior, He was lauded as the King of the Jews now He’s been beaten, scourged/flayed, a thorny crown forced onto His head, and He is forced to carry the instrument of His death through the capital and up to the execution spot where He’ll be nailed to the cross.

We have the choice to curse God for giving us challenges or to join our suffering to His Son and bear our crosses while we walk in His footsteps.

What you choose is part of God’s gift to you: free choice. God DOES love you and He wants the best for you. This Easter, offer up your sufferings to Him on the cross and give thanks that you are still alive to honor Him another day.

God Bless you.:gopray:

Great advice!

I would add though, that doing job interviews that do not end up in an offer are never a waste. When I decided to make a big career switch about 12 years ago, I went to interviews that I knew wouldn’t end up with an offer, just to practice interviews so I’d be ready for the “big one”. It worked!

Perhaps God is answering the OP’s prayers, by giving opportunities to sharpen interview skills, to be ready for a really good opportunity.

I wonder if you have tried counselling with this issue? It’s not uncommon. Many of us haven’t felt loved within our family of origin and that can leave you with a feeling of being unlovable in general. You know that God loves you like the child of His that you are so we can take that as a given. It’s pointless and creating bitterness in yourself to keep accusing Him of that one. But nevertheless your feeling of not being loved should be addressed.

The other thing is the quality of resilience. People are capable of surviving horrendous circumstances and living happy and hopeful lives. They get knocked down then they get up again and hope for the best for tomorrow. All of the time you spend in blaming God for the bad things happening to you, takes away from the work of fixing and overcoming those things.

I am sorry for what you are having to go through at the moment. I will say the serenity prayer for you… God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. :gopray2:

You are not the only one that thinks God may be letting them down. When you work hard for something and only continually have failures that occur in the worst way possible, you start to wonder why God allows it and why nothing you do seems to work to change your own fortunes. I dont have a good answer for why some people seem to have everything come to easy to them while others struggle. It does seem though that God if he exists does prefer to reward some people while letting others to struggle. Even the eternity argument is hard to fathom because people who struggle or are rewarded here are not necessarily going to be rewarded in heaven. You can easily have a cruddy life here and spend an eternity in hell.

It’s how you respond to things in this life that place you where you’re going to spend eternity. Have a “woe is me attitude” and never think of others less fortunate, and no wonder people are miserable. 🤷

There is always something to be thankful for.

Sorry you have had and continue to have such a hard life. I sympathize. It sounds like you have had a hard life but I am sure you know that others have had a even harder life. Remember that. Somebody always has it worse.

I am wondering what makes you think that God micromanages every single little thing in life… I get this impression from you from you stating that “God put a job interview in front of you” only to have it not go through. What makes you think that? Someone by their free will decided to let you have a job interview. And by someones free will they decided to give the job to somebody else. Maybe somebody else was more qualified. Maybe somebody else just interview’d a little better. How would you not getting the job be Gods fault in either of those cases? Blaming someone else when things do not go our way is a immature attitude. But I can understand your frustration.

A good job/career is something that is part hard work and part luck (for lack of a better term as I do not believe in luck) My Grandfather worked 2 jobs from the time he was in his 50’s until he retired around 75 years old! He was not upset about it (quite the opposite, he liked it!) Maybe getting a better job would require some kind of school? Either trade school or college? Perhaps, for your husband, a job that pays well but is dirty or back braking, like construction or working in a oil refinery? I did not go to college but I make a good living because I work in construction. Not everybody can take a beating physically with a boss yelling at you working outside in 100 degree weather lol. I can, so I cash in on it, thanks be to God.

Please do not lose hope. Read the first chapter of The Book of St. James regarding trials and tribulations. Be happy that you have a husband to go through these rough times with. A lot of people have to go through their hard times a lone (no spouse) and some people will never find a spouse. That is rough too. God is not being mean to you. Prayers said for you.

We live our lives faithfully to God because of our love for God not because we want to be rewarded. If you strive for earthly success, perhaps that’s all you’ll ever achieve. If you live your life daily for God, you will achieve greater holiness and perhaps, God willing, you will be with Him for eternity in heaven when your earthly toils are over. Give up your successes and failures to God; make them your daily offering and see what happens. It’s changed my life and I pray it changes your’s as well. God Bless you and have a Blessed Easter!

I have a lot to say, can’t right now. I will say that I fully understand. I wish you could come over for coffee. Will try to respond later.

Wow, all I can say is I share your views from time to time. There are many times where I feel the same way you do, and can commiserate. I actually thought about writing a similar post, because my husband recently shared similar frustrations. There’s a lot more I’d like to say, but I will wait for now.

Maybe you were led to the church at just the right time to obtain the spiritual graces and strengths you would need to face your trials.

Prayers and cyber-hugs.
