The next post is taken from a forum. I would like everyone to read what the bible really says. I feel many people are ignorant of the true meanings of scripture verses and also the Hebrew translations
which are very different from the Christian.

Christianity is supposed to be about “love” as taught by Jesus. Yet, the average Christian is so hate filled and so judgemental. Christians pretend they love gays but hate the sin. We all know this is totally impossible. These words are foolish.

I am brought up as a Christian. I believe in God the Father, Son ,and Holy Spirit. I also believe God loves everybody with an unconditional love.

It is proven that people are born being homosexual. It is not a choice just as being hetrosexual is not a choice.

I might now classify myself as being a Progressive Christian, something like that. This means I’ve stopped looking at the world and everyone who is not Christian with hate filled eyes and scorn believing I am better than they are.

I used to see the world as “us, the Christians” and “them” meaning non Christians. I had a little narrow mind and I thought God’s mind was just as narrow. I’ve since learned. God loves all people. The greatest thing any Christian has to learn is to love all people and to see all people through the eyes of Jesus.

Jesus loves you whoever you are. Jesus accepts you whoever you are. Jesus doesn’t care about colour, race, or sex orientation. Jesus said nothing about homosexuality.

I am not gay. I appeal to all Christians on the board : “Lets learn to love”. Lets stop playing God and sitting in judgement of our fellow neighbors. Lets stop being self righteous and holier than thou. Lets stop speaking for God.

The real truth is that nobody knows God. God is unknowable, a mystery. The bible came through the minds of men and it was oral stories passed down for many years and finally written down. Some of it is inspired by the Holy Spirit but much of it is not.

God bless everyone on the board. Let us all work towards discovering truth and love. Lets drop the hate toward any persons.

Sincerely

Genevieve

Quote from a forum on the net:

Genesis 19: 1-28 - The ancient story of Sodom and Gomorrah
Lot was going to send out his two daughters to be gang raped by an angry mob, and nobody has a problem with this??? anyways, i digress…

There a few errors in the translation from the hebrew scriptures to the english version we have now that i feel are pretty major to the interpretation… the word that has been translated as intercourse is ‘yada’, which means ‘get to know’. had the author of this scripture wanted to say that the mob wanted to have sexual intercourse with lots visitors, he probably would have used the word ‘shakab’. this word denotes sexual activity. the word ‘yada’ appears in the hebrew scriptures over 900 times, and in every other context is used as meaning to get acquainted with someone. yet, in this particular passage, it somehow was changed to mean ‘intercourse’.

Therefore, that entire passage should read something more like this… ‘where are the mortals who came here tonight?? bring them out here so that we may get acquainted with them.’

Now, if you look at it again, there are a few other problems as well… for the story to be a condemnation of homosexuality, the ENTIRE CITY must have been homosexual. this is impossible, but even if it were true, why on earth would lot have sent his DAUGHTERS out to a homosexual male mob??? it states that lots daughters were virgins, and we know that sacrificing virgins was something very common in pagan idol worship. and we also know that lot lived in a pagan city.

Elsewhere in the bible, sodom is refered to again, in ezekiel 16…
“Look! This is what proved to be the error of Sodom your sister: Pride, sufficiency of bread and the carefreeness of keeping undisturbed were what happened to belong to her and her dependent towns, and the hand of the afflicted one and the poor one she did not strengthen. And they continued to be haughty and to carry on a detestable thing before me, and I finally removed them, just as I saw fit”

The hebrew word that was translated as ‘detestable thing’ is towebah, and this word literally translates out as ‘to commit idol worship’.

Therefore, the problem of sodom and gamorrah isn’t homosexuality at all. the sin commited here is idol worship.

Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13

Leviticus is an interesting book. if you look at the context of the time it was writeen, the isrealites were living in a real ‘get out there and multiply’ kind of time… they were the chosen ones, so they had a duty to be really fertile. therefore, even masturbation was a HUGE sin.
leviticus is also part of the ‘mosaic law’, which also forbade haircuts, shaving, and wearing clothing with blended fibres, among other things. the law was such that if you broke one law, then you were guilty of breaking them all.

So, for us to use the leviticus passages to condemn homosexuality, we would also be equally condemning people who shave and get their hair cut.

We allow people who shave and get their hair cut to get married, accept sacraments, and share equally in our church, so it doesn’t make ANY sense whatsoever to forbid equality to homosexuals based on the levitical text.

Romans 1:26-27
1 Cor. 6: 9-11
1 Tim. 1:9-11

Basically, the words that translated out as homosexual or ‘men who lie with men’ in these texts were ‘arsenokoites’ and ‘malakos’.

Arsenokoites litterally means ‘lift bed’, but bible scholars now believe that at the time, it was used to denote a male temple prostitute. malakos litterally translates out as ‘spineless’, or coward.

Now, in my ‘new american bible for catholics’, there is an asterisk by the term ‘homosexual’ in these particular passages, which states…

‘The term translated as ‘practicing homosexuals’ refers to adult males who indulged in homosexual practices with boy prostitutes, i.e.boys or young men who were kept for the purposes of prostitution, a practice not uncommon in the greco-roman world.’

Therefore, i’d suggest that the texts above are a condemnation of pedophilia, prostitution, promiscuity, and idolatry, and not at all a condemnation of a consensual, committed homosexual relationship.

Thus, as far as i’m concerned, the bible is not a condemnation of homosexuality.

I left the catholic church after 30 years of trying to fit in.end of quote.

What is love? It is seeking the greatest good for the beloved. How do we know what the greatest good is? We must find truth–God is called both love and truth.

Eternal salvation is living in union with God who is love. In order to be united to Him in love, we must receive His love in faith (trusting that it is truly what is best for us) and abide in it.

When we do things contrary to authentic love it is essentially a choice to live contrary to God’s love–it is a rejection of it. This is what sin is. In fact, many saints have described sin as loving the wrong way–such as loving ourselves, our reputations, pleasure, or material possessions, more than God and neighbor. The world offers so many counterfeit loves from the superficial to the sinful. Acting contrary to authentic love is harmful to our well-being as it wounds us in our very nature, as creatures of God who bear His image. This is the case whether we do physical harm to someone else or whether we commit the sin in the secrets of our own hearts. It also puts us at enmity with what is actually out Supreme Good.

Homosexual activity in particular is contrary to our very nature as human beings created male and female in the image of God. It is a perversion and abuse of something set aside by God for a sacred purpose–much like fornication, masturbation, lust, adultery, and other sexual sins are. God’s love, especially as expressed in the relationship between the Word and the Church, is reflected in conjugal love between a husband and wife like a mirror. That act bears the image of God’s eucharistic love for His people–the giving of Self with the potential to bring forth new life, supernatural for God, natural for us.

To act contrary to that model is to act contrary to God who is love. This is true even for married couples who abuse their sexuality even within the confines of marriage. To invite one’s beloved to engage in behavior contrary to love is not love at all–as true love seeks the greatest good for the beloved regardless of the sacrifice necessary–even if it means not being liked by the beloved.

We all have crosses we must bear–everyone does, and often the one’s that are least visible are the most tragic. But they can be our salvation or our damnation. It is no doubt that those attracted to the same sex have a difficult cross but we all are called to bear our crosses like Christ did on Good Friday so that we may rise in communion with the love of God like He did on Easter Sunday (and we all fall, but we must get again if we do and take up our cross again, like Christ did when He literally fell.).

Of course, we should not pass final judgment on any individual soul, but rather with compassion we should seek the good of all souls and a life consonant with the love of God. If we have contempt for sinners rather than compassion for them, two things are evident: (1) We have no self-knowledge of our own failures and/or how we have actually been able to overcome them and (2) we do not have the love of Christ within us, who suffered the most grievous torments out of love and compassion for poor sinners.

“And even if sufferings had no other reward than being able to bear something for that God who loves you, is not this a great reward and a sufficient remuneration? Whoever loves, understands what I say.”–St. John Chrysostom

Arsenokoites literally means MAN SEX. And we all know what that means. There is a difference between people who just have hormonal disorders, and people who are simply consumed with lust and like to do anything that’s perverted, homosexuality being one activity. It’s the latter one that the Bible is really against, in my view. So there can be no broad approval or disapproval of homosexuality since it may go case by case. We aren’t supposed to hate gays but we aren’t supposed to blindly approve of those activities either, especially when they go on parade.

The next post is taken from a forum. I would like everyone to read what the bible really says.
How do you know the bible is true?
Christians pretend they love gays but hate the sin. We all know this is totally impossible. These words are foolish.
You mean we ought to love sin?
I used to see the world as “us, the Christians” and “them” meaning non Christians. I had a little narrow mind and I thought God’s mind was just as narrow. I’ve since learned. God loves all people. The greatest thing any Christian has to learn is to love all people and to see all people through the eyes of Jesus.
So, God sees most Christians as hateful and judgmental?
Lets stop playing God and sitting in judgement of our fellow neighbors. Lets stop being self righteous and holier than thou. Lets stop speaking for God.
But, are you not “judging” right here?

If you look at the Story of Abraham purchasing a grave for Sarah, you notice a formula for bargaining in the ancient mid-east. It involves a lot of exaggeration and a overly generous offer that the other side is not expected to accept. (The insistance that Abraham take the cave for free, then saying what’s a few hundred sheckles between friends?). If we keep this tradition in mind and then look at the story of Lot, we come away with a different picture.

Lot offers his daughters as a over generous opening to bargaining with the townspeople. Perhaps neither side is meant to take such an initial offer seriously.

I think your arguement here is weak. I don’t want to get into a long translation argument, but I think it is clear that the townspeople have rape on their mind. It is not clear, however, that it is a homosexual act which earns the town GOd’s wrath. First, there’s no defintion of the strangers as being men. Second, it is all the townspeople, men and woman, who (we have to assume) are outside Lot’s house. I think the sin here is rape and general abuse of a stranger.

I’m sorry that you feel that way. However, we have never met and you do not know me. I can tell you that I can love the homosexual but hate the sin. If you are incapable of doing this it does not give you license to place your handicap upon all people.
I am brought up as a Christian. I believe in God the Father, Son ,and Holy Spirit. I also believe God loves everybody with an unconditional love.
You mean that God is able to love a person even if that person sins? Does that mean that God must love the sin too? I ask because you seem to imply that it is not possible to love a person and hate their sin. I would suggest to you that God does this and He calls us to do the same.
It is proven that people are born being homosexual. It is not a choice just as being hetrosexual is not a choice.
Please state your sources for this statement. The fact is, no homosexual gene has been found and science continues to be unable to point to homosexuality being hereditary.
I might now classify myself as being a Progressive Christian, something like that. This means I’ve stopped looking at the world and everyone who is not Christian with hate filled eyes and scorn believing I am better than they are.
Nope, sounds like you are simply a plain Christian. If you truly believed that Christians hate non-christians, then I’d suggest that perhaps you never understood Christianity to begin with.
I used to see the world as “us, the Christians” and “them” meaning non Christians. I had a little narrow mind and I thought God’s mind was just as narrow. I’ve since learned. God loves all people. Agreed! Welcome finally to Christianity!
Jesus loves you whoever you are. Jesus accepts you whoever you are. Jesus doesn’t care about colour, race, or sex orientation. Jesus said nothing about homosexuality.
Jesus hates Sin. Race is not a sin. Colour is not a sin. Sex (gender) is not sin. However… homosexuality?!.. SIN.
I am not gay. I appeal to all Christians on the board : “Lets learn to love”. Lets stop playing God and sitting in judgement of our fellow neighbors. Lets stop being self righteous and holier than thou. Lets stop speaking for God.
First I find it rather sad that you are choosing to champion homosexuality and yet you want to make it perfectly clear that you are not homosexual. Reminds me of a Sienfeld episode. Second, we ARE to judge behavor. What we are NOT to judge is the soul and it’s final destination. We are called to admonish our brother if he sins so that he might repent and come back to the Lord. To ignore or pretend that a sin isn’t a sin, is NOT Christian and does not help a brother or sister who is in trouble.
The real truth is that nobody knows God. God is unknowable, a mystery. The bible came through the minds of men and it was oral stories passed down for many years and finally written down. Some of it is inspired by the Holy Spirit but much of it is not.
Okay… now we are seeing what you truly believe. Protestant and Catholic alike (Christians though not united) can at least agree that the Bible IS the Word of God. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit and it is Truth! Who or what are you? Are you a new kind of Christian that does not believe in the Bible? If that is the case, how do you know about Jesus? Maybe He was simply a thought which came from “the minds of men… passed down for many years and finally written down.”
God bless everyone on the board. Let us all work towards discovering truth and love. Lets drop the hate toward any persons.
Amen… but let us not ignore Truth. Let us love our brother and sister enough to tell them when they are in danger rather than allowing them to walk off a cliff.

43"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
– Jesus (Matthew, chapter 5)

Yes, i agree Genevieve: If Jesus tells your or i to love even our enemies, i should certainly love a homosexual who is not my enemy. Well said!

👍

The question i’d like to ask is, how should i love a homosexual if i am not one and i think homosexuality is a sin? What answer can you give me to help me out?

🤷

True Christian Charity demands fraternal correction. That is one way to show love for someone - the bottom line is you are to help all attain heaven.

Jesus had no problem admonishing sinners. It is well documented in Scripture. He had no problem confronting sin and died because of sin.

The “gay” agenda is all about normalizing sinful behavior. It is a very clever ruse.

There is no “gay” gene however, current research in epigenetics shows that lifestyle and environmental pressures can be passed ot the next generation.

9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.1Corinthians 6:9-11

SocratesforJesus

And also to the many others who responded…
Thank you for your replies.

Socrates, I suppose we’d have to go off topic and talk about what we mean by love in order to answer your question. That’s another topic. The general biblical meaning is that we do not wish harm to anyone. We say we love…love…love…all people. If we really stop and think hard about it there are many people we don’t even like…lol. There are many people we would not care to invite to our homes for a cup of coffee.

Perhaps what I mean by love on this thread is just that we should stop cursing and damning people in our hearts; stop putting people down. So, maybe Socrates, as a means of loving gays, just don’t say anything about them one way or the other ??? You know the old adage our mothers taught us : “If you can’t say something good about someone, say nothing”.

Do I judge? Oh yes. I am full of contradictions and paradox. Take me away. I plead guilty. The purpose of my post is in asking us all to think and open our eyes so we aren’t so quick to condemn others. There are many many really good gays living with one partner for many years and who aren’t promisicious - sp. They aren’t going from partner to partner and acting irresponsible in their sexual behaviour.

By the way, my father’s side of the family is Catholic. I had an aunt who was a nun, a beautiful person who was principal of a college. I am christened Catholic but raised Protestant. I know and knew many Catholics including family who are wonderful people. I’m not against Catholics.

You know what I get sick and tired of?

“God loves me so it is ok to sin!” “God will accept me no matter if I am gay or not”

That has to be the biggest lie a homosexual can say to ones self.

Lets look at the “Parent” role here. God created us in his image and likeness.

As a parent I demand my children to respect and obey me. I tell lil Johnny, don’t break my rules or punishment will follow.

I, as a parent, love my child unconditionally, however if my child does not do as I say I have no choice than punish my child, even though I love him.

Well another argument is that a punishment is not forever, why would God send you to hell forever. That is not true either, God is VERY, VERY forgiving and will give many many chances, however it is you yourself that chooses eternal fire by not obeying him, he has to eventually case you into eternal hell.

If I tell Johnny (posted this in another thread a long time ago), don’t drag your toys in the living room.

Johnny does and dis obeys me. I say Johnny, put your toy away or I will take it from you.

Johnny drags the toy again. (It is ok, daddy loves me, he will accept it)

I take the toy away for awhile. Give it back (forgiveness).

Johnny drags it again, I tell Johnny, TAKE CARE of your toy or you will loose it forever.

Time goes on, Toy drags again & again, what happens?

Johnny’s toy goes in the trash and is gone … FOREVER!

Do I still love Johnny, of course I do, but a certain point he will never obey me and I have to take steps.

Jesus said "Those without sin cast the 1st stone"

Sure he said that, told us not to judge others, he is the judge, but he did not say to sin was “OK” He told the lady. "Go and SIN NO MORE"

He did not say what a sin was or wasn’t, because common sense you should already know what is sin is or isn’t. Being homosexual IS a sin.

Oh, just to clear up a point. The post about homosexuals and the biblical verses is totally a quote from another forum. I found it educational personally which is why I posted it. I don’t believe anyone has a monopoly on biblical translations. There are many! I believe we should open our minds and read other translations. I also read Hebrew Jewish translations.

This kind of brings up about whether God is fair. God is not fair - if He was all sinners would go to hell. To be fair He must judge all sin. Those who want God to be fair will get just that. - fairness.

He extends to those who will accept opportunities to receive His mercy. I prefer mercy to fairness.

If we really stop and think hard about it there are many people we don’t even like…lol. There are many people we would not care to invite to our homes for a cup of coffee.
Sure, does love mean liking every single personality? As someone pointed out love is willing the good of another. That does not mean we must like everyone. One can love an ax murderer without liking them.
Perhaps what I mean by love on this thread is just that we should stop cursing and damning people in our hearts;
Well, that is exactly the type of judgment Christ warned us about. The problem is we too often confuse judging bad acts with hating in one’s heart. They are different actions. In fact, not judging evil as evil is a serious problem. It would mean we have no conscience.
stop putting people down. So, maybe Socrates, as a means of loving gays, just don’t say anything about them one way or the other ??? You know the old adage our mothers taught us : “If you can’t say something good about someone, say nothing”.
Discussing bad actions is not putting anyone “down”.

Does that make those acts good? How are you defining good and evil?

Weather whatever you go by, the male and female were “MADE” to go together, common human nature by design say that two males or two females together is wrong. It is not just wrong by God’s law, but by nature as well.

It is just homosexual activist want to shove this down our throats.

I have a sister that is gay, do I love her, of course I do. Do I accept her lifestyle, no I don’t

So for those who keep coming here for “justification” of this lifestyle, it will not happen. For those who say that it is ok with God, weather Catholic, Jewish, Muslium, anything, they are flat out fooling themselves.

The “gay” agenda is all about normalizing sinful behavior. It is a very clever ruse.

There is no “gay” gene however, current research in epigenetics shows that lifestyle and environmental pressures can be passed ot the next generation.
I think people can be born with hormonal disorders that affect who they are attracted to, they are less to blame than those who are just running with lust and new perversions.

But then again, we are all born with ability to lie, cheat, steal, and kill, so I kind of agree that just because you feel something doesn’t mean you should act on it.

Homosexual BEHAVIOR can be called a sin.
Homosexual INCLINATIONS or TEMPTATIONS in and of themselves are NEVER a sin.

God loves those who suffer from such temptations just as He loves everyone else. He also loves those who give into those temptations, though He is probably grieved by their behavior.

fix
By good gays I mean Christian gays who practice Christianity and who are as holy as any other Christian.

For those wishing to classify homosexuality as a sin I would like to say it is not listed as above and beyond or being greater than other sins listed in the Old T. It is not listed as being one of the Ten Commandments. The Old T. says to stone adulterers to death. Why don’t we do that today ? Why do we single out some scriptures as being valid and not others? The Old T. also says we shouldn’t wear clothing of mixed fabrics. Why don’t we practice this?

We don’t beat up on liars, cheaters, adulterers etc. and chain them to a fence leaving them there to die like a recent case in the U.S.A. where a gay person was killed. When are we going to stop beating up on gays and killing them? When are we going to stop saying its O.K. to treat gays like lepers? Jesus went toward the lepers. How do you know he doesn’t go towards our gay brothers and sisters? The least shall be first…the first shall be last…
