I don’t really feel God cares about me or that he made me for any purpose.
Generally I don’t feel any sense of sin/concept of sin or sorry for “sins” -even things Catholics say are sins.
I also have depression which makes it even harder to believe in God,understand about Jesus etc.

For example if I say a prayer like the below it just feels like I’m saying empty words to the air.
Jesus never literally helps me.
If I’m lonely and pray “Jesus, help me” there’s no Jesus “appear”,no sense of him,no sense that he’s real or gives any care about me,no help,no change in circumstances,no hope etc…

Is all this “religion” even real or is it created by humans as a “psychological crutch”?
If Jesus really is real then why is he not powerful enough to reach me through my malfunctioning brain or is it rather he’s just saying “no” to helping me?

Admittedly I also have no trust that Jesus will help me but how do you trust “someone” when you’ve been let down so many times before (ie:referrring to other times I prayed and he didn’t help me).

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts…

Hello again Rozellelily! I remember you posting something similar to this a while back.

God is real. I know this without a doubt, due to the little miracles that I have experienced in my own life, through seeing the Hand of God in the beauty and complexity of creation, and through seeing the Face of God in the goodness of those who are devout Catholics and close to Him.

Most importantly, I know God is real because of the peace and the joy that I sometimes feel after receiving Jesus in Holy Communion, or kneeling before Him in the Blessed Sacrament, or after I have made a good confession. This kind of peace is so strong that I know I am not making it up, or imagining it. I know that I don’t find it anywhere else, it only comes when I am praying to God. It is not really a feeling, it is the presence of God inside my soul. He lives inside your soul too.

I’m sorry that you are still feeling abandoned and unloved by God. Nothing could be further from the truth. He loves you more in a single moment than any human on earth could love you in a lifetime. He longs to hold you close to His heart, more than you long to be held. He is with you every single second of the day, waiting for you to trust in Him. The proof of His love for you is in the fact that He gave up His life for you when He died on the cross for you, and in the fact that He offers His entire Self to you, every time you go to Mass. He has written time after time about his love for you:

The most beautiful love letter in the world Catholic Living
I was filled with so much joy when I read this. It’s very long, but you don’t even have to read the whole thing (though I think you should!) to feel just how much God loves us, His little children! My dear Child, I love you! (John 3:16) I created you in My image (Genesis 1:27) and I called you “very good” (Genesis 1:31). I knitted you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). I know the number of the hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30) and I am familiar with all your ways (Psalm 139:3).…

Some times we are so focused on ourselves, that we don’t recognize God’s intervention in our lives. I was like this once too (and still am sometimes), demanding everything from God, and complaining that He gave me nothing. This ingratitude changes when we realize how much we have to be grateful for, when we realize that everything, absolutely everything in our life, no matter how big or small, is a blessing from God. We are entitled to nothing, we are all sinners who deserve nothing, and yet God still lovingly sends down His blessings to us each and every day. Think of the home you live in, the electricity you have, the bed you sleep in, the friends and family in your life, the sun that shines, the blue sky, the trees, the talents that you have, your achievements, your good qualities… These are all gifts to you from your Father in Heaven. Gifts that we don’t deserve because we stubbornly refuse to love Him day after day, and instead love sin. So try to cultivate a heart of gratitude and thank God for everything you have, the big things and the little things. Do this every day.

Also try to cultivate a heart of trust. Trust in God means total trust, like that a small child has for their parents. It means you trust them completely to look after you, to provide for you in all that you need. It means that you trust them even if they don’t give you what you want, because you know that they are wiser than you, and know what is best for you. It means that you trust in their timing, when it feels like they are taking longer than necessary to carry out their promises to you. Trust in God the way that a small child trusts their mother or father.

Tell God that you are struggling to love Him and to trust in Him. Tell Him that you desperately need His help. Ask Him to reveal himself to you. And then tell Him and ask Him again the next day, and the next day, and the day after that. Virtue (such as purity, love for God, trust in Him, humility, etc) does not happen overnight. It takes great time, prayer and effort on our part, and ultimately, God is the only one that can give these things to us. We show Him that we really want them, by asking for them again and again, by working hard to cultivate virtue, and by waiting patiently, no matter how long it takes for His intercession.

Prayer, prayer and more prayer is the answer to all of your problems. Make time for regular prayer at home, for regular Mass and confession and for Adoration. Pray the Rosary daily and say: “Mary, teach me how to love your Son! Jesus, make me more like You!” Mary promised to always intercede for those that prayed her Rosary daily, if what they are praying for is God’s Will. Of course it is God’s Will to you come to know Him and to love Him! Ask and you shall receive. Do not give up.

God loves you Rozellelily. Go and visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament, and tell Him you feel lonely. Adoration has changed my life, and I know it will change yours too, if you make an effort to do it regularly. If you are serious about trusting more in God and loving Him more, please, please, go to Adoration at least once every week.

I am praying for you, and have been since I read your other post. I hope that I have helped in some way, and I’m sorry for the long post. God bless you!

Same sis. But I do believe the religion is real. I see God’s miracles in other people. I’ve seen how someone in my life was miraculously healed and didn’t have to go for an operation. Stuff like that make me doubt less, but it kind of stings more doesn’t it.

That being said, it could be your depression and not the lack of God’s attention. Are you getting help for it?

Yes, your advice on the Rosary and Adoration is solid.

When combining the two, I can’t think of a better way to build faith.

God always answers our prayers. But the answer isn’t always what we want it to be. And He doesn’t do it in a set time limit. He does it in His time. Perhaps you needed to get to this point before you were ready to accept the help He wants you to receive.

In regard to your depression, that isn’t going to magically disappear. You need to do some work on that end yourself. Ask Him to provide the therapists you need and the right medications, if the therapist He provides you with deems it is necessary.

Be open to whatever He provides. He will do it. But you have to be ready and willing to accept it and to receive it.

You don’t have to have any lengthy prayers. Just say, “Jesus, help me to trust in You” and “Jesus, I trust in You.” Then watch Him work.

I will add that even our Saints have had these experiences

Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta did not feel God’s presence for many years and Saint Monica prayed I think it was 20 years for her sons conversion.

Are you getting treatment for your depression? Depression can warp your perception of everything

I sympathize with you, I truly do.

God help us 😦

On a side note, when was your last confession? It’s nearly impossible to experience sanctifying grace without regular confession.

Faith, charity and HOPE, Roze ; )

All of these must be plentiful in order for you to understand His answers to your calls

Yes for many years.Saw many doctors, therapy, different tablets etc.
Nothing has worked. After PET brain scans some doctors said they thought maybe beginning of young onset dementia (although in late 30’s) instead of depression.
I really don’t know what’s wrong and I’m 100% confident doctors don’t know what’s going on either.
They just guess different things and “throw stuff your way”(so to speak) while crossing their fingers for the best.
Medicine has come a long way but still has many many limits especially when concerning the brain.
That’s what makes me lose faith/hope more-doctors can’t help you and God doesn’t either when I pray.

Maybe the depression does/is warping my perception to an extend, but the cruel reality is that not all types of depression are fixable-not when the actual brain cells themselves have been lost, when there’s neuoinflammation etc…so your sort of left with this brain that God (if He’s real ) can’t reach.
It would be hard for anyone to understand, but not only do I feel sadness/depression but also even find it hard to “grasp” or feel concepts now such as love, hope etc.
Since my brain has worsened it’s like prayings become more futile like God and Holy Spirit literally can’t reach me whereas before I could sort of “sense” the Holy Spirit sometimes when I prayed.
Also even my personalities changed like I used to be social and loving but now I don’t even know how to anymore-but it’s not on a will level because I wouldn’t will to be that way -but more like the brain process has actually damaged the emotion and personality centre of my brain.
Sorry for the life story!

I’ve actually never had one.I don’t think I can because I never went through the process of first communion etc-only baptism in Catholic Church.

Frankly speaking, that does not mean you are a lost cause. It’s very frustrating and I fully empathize, but you do need to keep seeking treatment. It’s a physical problem which is affecting you. You might not be fully cured but you would at least benefit from learning coping techniques, having social support etc that will alleviate at least some symptoms.

I know it’s sooo easy to say all of that as some stranger on the internet but you gotta push yourself. I don’t know if you have the financial resources but I do hope you have the means to get the help you deserve.

Also, confession, daily mass etc can be of great help. Have you tried talking to a priest? Asking for intercessions?

Rozellelily,
Sometimes a change of perspective helps. Here is a Muslim prayer that I find helpful. If you wish you could change Allah to God or Jesus or the Holy Spirit.
Code:
"I asked for strength... And Allah gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom...And Allah gave me problems to solve.
I asked for prosperity...And Allah gave me brain and brawn to work.
I asked for courage...And Allah gave me danger to overcome.
I asked for love...And Allah gave me troubled people to help.
I asked for favors...And Allah gave me opportunities.
I received nothing I wanted and I received everything I needed. My prayer has been answered."

Silence, whether internal or external can help us gain that change of perspective, a way to look at things differently. Be well.

Other people have given you solid advice and I haven’t read it all so forgive me if I repeat things.

I just wanted to add something. I know a little about doctors letting you down. I have a physical illness, not serious but after 7.5yrs it’s undiagnosed so very frustrating. So i just wanted to add my two cents worth, just cos we (let me say I here so you can chose to include yourself or not), just cos I may have thought in the past God wasn’t helping me and doctors weren’t either. I have now realised that this ill health is the greatest gift ever from God as it has allowed me draw close to him through suffering. You may need to come to see this yourself as it may sound like rubbish to you, so I’ll just say. God is our father and loves us more than we love ourselves and knows what we need much more than we do. He wants what is best for us in the long run. So like any parent, that might mean short term (our life on earth) hardships for long term gains (our eternal life with Him) . Any parent will do or not do things for their children which may seem hard or unfair to the child at that time (homework, school, early to bed, no ice cream for dinner etc.) but is in their best interests. And so it is for God, only He is perfect so we must trust Him to do what is best for us in the here and now.
Don’t give up on God your loving Father. It is fine if praying is hard or seems empty, just pray anyway, all the saints went through times like this, it is when God is teaching us to stand on our own two feet like a toddler, scary yes, but we do have to learn to walk. Remember God is a parent and a teacher, the teacher often keeps silent during the test. God bless you
