sometimes i’ll think that God is calling me to do something and then I think it’s wrong and then I think that i’ts right. I realize that GOd may not be calling me to do it but then it happens again. If God is calling you to do something is it like a big epiphany moment where you are just like wow. Sometimes I think that the devil is getting to me. It is so difficult for me. I even pray a lot.

You know that you can find out if it is God by telling God that if it is HIm calling then for Him to do with you what HE wishes, for we are unable to do anything by our humanness. If we do then this is probably satin leading and will be destructive. Just call “Lord if this is You then do with me what You want”.

You can do it have a happy new year
Godbless.

is what you think you are being called to do give glory to GOD?

SOmetimes it is and sometimes it isn’t. for example I want to write to spread christian messages but I also do want some attention and recognition for it. But there are many other things to.

Hello cgirl4ever,

We are a fallen race. We can’t but help to seek praise for what we do (save maybe the most holy of us). However I do not think we should avoid doing good because we have an inner desire to be recognized for it. We still must do the good and work on our prideful ambitions through the sacrements.

If you desire to do good, and truly feel it is good you are desiring to do, put on your helmet and crash forward. If the devil os attempting to stop you, using your own pride against you might be a powerful tool.

Do good, then confess your pride. Sounds like a plan 🙂

great advice!!! from my experience ,when you are doing things you don’t want noticed , someone notices and you may not realize it till later when someone comes up to you out of the blue and says I know you ,your the one that did this or that. A lot of times I will pass credit off to my AOH brothers insted of my self, so there a ways around being the center of attention.quietly going around doing GODs work offering praise & thanksgiving check out 2nd Cor.9:15

My own experience has been that God’s voice is usually the quiet voice in my soul. I try to discern God’s Will in this way. If I am led to a closer union with Him; if I advance in prayerfulness; if I learn to practice virtue, by my actions… (always through His grace!)… then it was God’s Will.

If I start to turn away from God; if worldly concerns start to override the spiritual (interfer with going to Mass… praying the Rosary, etc.)… then, it wasn’t God’s Will. At that point, it’s time to pray more fervently. I like to make visits to the Blessed Sacrament. There, before Our dear Lord… in His presence… I can ask Him for His guidance. We are so blessed, that He dwells with us in our Churches. I hope this helps. 🙂

i think that the best way to go about discerning the will of God is to first seek out a good spiritual director. the way i go about listening is to see if the thing is in line with scripture and tradition, if its not, then it is either from myself, or elsewhere. the next criteria is that it must meet the demands of common sense. if the thing you are being “called” to seems out of keeping with common sense, then it should be dismissed. if it persistantly arises, then discuss it with people who are wiser than you (spiritual director, holy people you know, etc). you have to realize that feeling good about being a good person is normal, but those feelings must not be your motivation. the best motivation is to do what is right because it is right for the love of God and neighbor. if you are wondering if you are hearing God’s voice, then it will be the voice of love- it will be all the things the scriptures say of it. always pray, and always pay attention. both God and the devil are in the details. there will not allways be big epiphanies or deep feelings that you are doing the right thing. in order to know the right thing, you must study the right thing- this means keep reading your bible, talk to holy people, and learn what the Church teaches. if you train your mind this way, you will develop an inner discernment process when you feel those emotions. this way, instead of acting on pure viceral emotion, you will act on sound reasoning also. this provides a means for you to act with your whole person (mind and heart) more fully than if you were to simply react to every feeling good or bad.

The point here is that Scripture tells us that " God’s ways are not our ways God’s ways are so high above ours" This means that **we have to leave common sence out theoretical reasoning and the probabilities out because generally speaking they all relate to psychological reasoning. ** Remember what happened to Peter when he used “common sence” he told Jesus that he would not be able to wash His feet and remember the many other things that Peter said. Remember Judus when He used common sence “sell the oil and give the money to the poor”, Remember Thomas “I will not believe unless I see…” all common sence, all worldly thought. Remember Moses “who am I to speak to the Jews” and Gidion How am I to know if this is from you? and the list of common sence goes on.
God wants ( as the saints all say) faith a faith the size of the mustard seed. And this will move mountains.

If you look at only the Bible, books of only the saints who God gives you to read askiing God for the right books, without thinking about what is in them and going along with how the Holy spirit leads "we don’t have to worry about the words the Holy spirit will give them to us in, other words He will speak to us in our spirit NOT the head.
This all means exactly as the saints all did they threw away their learned ways and books and allowed the Holy spirit the chance to lead. Do you remember that each person who gave their lives to God askiing Him to do with them what God wanted, that they were all put into a position or situation where they spent much of their time alone, alone where it was God soaking into their spirit of God what God wanted in there and His forcing out what God didn’t want.
It is so easy to think that we can tell God we want to follow Him when we want only what we really want. This is not God seaking, but self seaking. We can’t follow God and only want the good things of life for that is not God. God’s ways are not our ways.
God bless

In response to the notion that one should toss out reasoning and adopt a more “sola fide” approach to spirituality, I would also like to point to the Tradition of the Church in regards to these matters. Please understand that I am not advocating that one should rely soley on reason. I am a Roman Catholic, and as such I believe (with the Tradition of the Church) that both Faith and Reason work together. Faith should inform our reason and guide it (see the document Fides et Ratio), but consider if what you are saying is true- that reason has little or nothing to do with discernment or christian spirituality. if thhis is the case, then what is wisdom? if one never examines the ways of God, then how can they be known. if you did not use your reasoning faculties to write a response to this person’s question, then how did you do it at all?
What I am advocating is careful discernment. The saints did the same, and there are plenty of examples in scripture. true, God’s ways are not the ways of this world, but He does work with His people in such a way that they may come to know his through thier reason as well as thier experiances and faith. don’t forget that when God tells Joseph to go to Egypt, Ha also tells him why. the same is true of Abraham and any other saint you may choose. The saints act on Faith, but they do not act blindly- they act with loving trust and hope. When Francis of Assisi couldn’t decide whetther to live in solitude or to continue preaching even he sought the advice and discenment of others- isn’t that what this forum is all about?
the head does not lead- the head understands the direction of the Spirit (Sometimes) and directs the virtues. the learned men did not throw away thier books, infact, many of them wrote new books. they followed the call of Christ through prayerful discernment, and through thier reflection they came to greater understandings of God. If we do not follow in thier footsteps, then we are well-meaning fools. We need the instruction of our Church and our brothers and sisters in faith.
No, please do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. we need both faith and reason in our spirituality. If we follow only when we feel like it, then we don’t follow at all. What happens when there are no more “feelings” of the direction which God is leading? This is a very common experiance of the saints, and thier answer has always been to follow the Magesterium, obeying thier spiritual directors, and sound reasoning. Otherwise you commit the fault of “loving the gift more than the giver”- the feeling of love more than the beloved. when a desert comes to a person like that, they quickly retreat to where they were and abandon the development of virtue

What is the reason why you follow Jesus?
Is your reason you following Jesus because He is the only way to the Father, have you profe of that?
Are you following the majesterium of the catholic church or following the understanding the church has about the bible?

Does the word “reason” mean sensible, motive, ability, to “think”
Look again at these words ALL are very human, where do they give glory to God when we know that God tells us to let go and let God, Moses didn’t go by reason he asked God how this could be the same as Mary asked. Think about it Josiph used reason and tried to take Mary away to not alloow shame.

Moses didn’t go by reason and he didn’t know where in which direction he was going other than to the promissed land. If he did know then why is there no passage in the Bible tha speakes about Moses arguing with God that they were not on course? Gidion didn’t use reason he followed in faith. The words by Judus were reason, he gave Jesus reason, logic, as his reason or argument for doing certain things and Jesus told him to allow his heart to move him.

Back to reason, or motive, there is no use of reason when the Spirit of God is in control for the spirit of God guides that soul who has given himself truely to God. Therefore there is no need for “human” thought for as Jesus taught us it is NOT you who will speak but the “Spirit” Therefore it is NOT reason to act upon but discernment which is in the gift of “wisdom” These gifts are God’s grace and love to His children NOT a learned understanding of mans “reasoning” why something should or should not be. For did not Jesus tell us that “His ways are so fare above our ways”. Another way of putting that is God’s ways are of the “spirit” not of the fles has reasoning is of the flesh.

Godbless

A holy, orthodox and knowledgeable spiritual director is the best answer. If you have one and follow their advice then you can be sure your doing Gods will. Even if they make a mistake God will be pleased with you. A sure approach.👍
