Ver. 34. This is addressed to princes established to govern the people of God. They are the image of God on earth by the authority they exercise, and which they have received from Him. — Is it not written in you law, (under which were also comprehended the Psalms) I have said: you are Gods? &c. Christ here stops the mouths of the Jews, by an argument which they could not answer, that sometimes they were called Gods, who acted by God’s authority. I have said: you are Gods. (Psalm lxxxi. 6.) But then he immediately declares, that it is not in this sense only that he is God. 1st, Because he has been sanctified by the Father, which St. Augustine and others understand of that infinite sanctification, which he has necessarily by always proceeding from the Father. Others expound it of a greater sanctity and fulness of grace above all other saints, given to him, even as he was man. But 2ndly, he adds at the same time, and confirms what he had often told them, that he was the Son of God, sent into the world: that his works shew that he was in the Father, and the Father in him. by this they saw that he was far from recalling or contradicting what he had said before. And therefore (ver. 30.) they sought to apprehend him, and put him to death for blasphemy. (Witham) — Eloim, which name of God was so called from judging, and may be interpreted judges. Your post was hard to read so forgive me if I haven’t understood properly.

So basically, we are gods when we act on God’s authority but Jesus is also “God” in a different sense (ie. in the way we normally perceive him as part of the Trinity).

This is very confusing because it is giving different meanings to the word “god”. After all, there is only one God, but here we are told that we are all gods… just not in the same way as God.

If it’s just a play on words to confuse the Jews, then it has also managed to confused me :ehh:

God is Love. Anyone who remains in Love remains in God and God remains in him. Love or unconditional love of God is what? a Spirit. I don’t have any problem with what you are saying but there is a difference between BEING god (“YOU ARE gods”) and manifesting God to the world or God dwelling within us.

the quote comes from Psalms 82, in Jewish fashion Jesus is arguing from the lesser to the greater. If these whom the word of God came can be called “gods” then how much more can God’s son be divine?

Here is also a quote from the Catechism.

460 The Word became flesh to make us “partakers of the divine nature”:78 "For this is why the Word became man, and the Son of God became the Son of man: so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God."79 "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God."80 "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods."81
This would surely be a very difficult teaching to understand outside of the selfless suffering of the Son of God through the person of Jesus. It is in the Sermon on the Mount, as we accept this Beatitude as a way of life that the meaning is realized and it can come no other way. Through doing the absolute (which is love) we become the image of the Father, not by any merit of our own but completely empowered with the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, The Lord and giver of life. It is in doing love, the sacrificial offering of ones life that we are transformed into the image of the Son of God by the spirit which flows from the Father and the Son. Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect. Sharing in the life of the body we are Temples of the Holy Spirit who is God, one in being with the Father. In His essence(LOVE-AGAPE)as we participate in this complete love poured out into our beings in Baptism and strengthened in Confirmation it is the Lord God Himself that flows from us as we live in Beatitude.

In my opinion, the verse is very clear to me:
John 10:32-36
32but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33"We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
34Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are gods’[a]? 35If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken— 36what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?
Here JesusYeshuaIssa denies that he is God literally, but metaphorically as per usage of the OTBible, all persons with whom GodAllahYHWH talked 1 to 1 , could be called as such only metaphorically.This is reasonable.
I respect Christian faith, but the above is my view, others may believe as they think true, no compulsion.
