God Speaking to me

Do you guys believe that God can speak to us through our music and electronics? I had an experience last night that really touched me. I was listening to music and I was very quite anxious, but then an ad in my song came up and said “heart attack, type A, don’t be hard on yourself and live your life” I feel as this is God talking to me and telling me to enjoy my life and give my anxieties to him and not be to hard on myself regarding my OCD. I also think this is God telling me to get over my OCD as anxiety and stress can cause heart attacks. What do you guys think? I think this was God showing me his grace. God Bless!

I think you should seek professional treatment for your OCD and anxiety.

And spiritual direction for your scruples and spiritual questions.

I look for God to speak to me in many ways, and sometimes it does come in a rather unusual way like you experienced. I don’t “rank” these experiences as high as God speaking to me in scripture or at mass, but I am open and looking for it, even while holding it somewhat loosely. And in these private “messages”, if God really is speaking, he will never contradict scripture or church teaching, of course. In general, I think we vastly underestimate the love of God for us personally, and the nearness of God to us personally. Scripture tells us things like “My sheep hear my voice”, and “I have carved you in the palm of my hand”. Some of these more private messages have been tremendous in invigorating my faith or helping me understand something I wasn’t previously getting. Just remember he loves you far more than you can imagine, and let that be your source of peace.

If you feel your health situation is one that could lead you to have a heart attack, then perhaps it would be good for you to schedule a check-up with your doctor.

Amen to that, god loves us unconditionally! The experience really can be restoring sometimes in the moment.

I do think God speaks to us in many ways. He is the author of all things. As previously stated we look to scripture to verify as he won’t contradict himself. Jesus says, “Be not afraid, I am with you.” Yes get some help, trust that he want you to live an anxiety free life.

God works through all media, all media as and when.

If something is on your mind and something crops up like that then yes, I’d say it’s relevant. These things are very personal and context dependent. It’s what it means to you and if it might lead to good fruit then I’d go along with that.
