Hello,

Can someone help me with this question I have. It is regarding verse 4 in Chapter 1 of the Acts of the Apostles:
4 While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Father had promised. ‘It is’, he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:
5 John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’
My question is when did the Father promise the Holy Spirit? Is this promise somewhere in the Bible?

God bless you

JOHN 14:16
(Jesus asks God to give the helper)
And I will ask the Father, and he will give
you another Helper, to be with you forever,

JOHN 14:26
(God agrees to send down in the name of Jesus)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father will send in my name, he will teach
you all things and bring to your
remembrance all that I have said to you.

Hope this helps

Thank you magnat,

So from the words of our Lord it means that the promise is implicit from what Jesus said. But not that the Father himself promised it through one of his prophets?

I know this is a year ago, but, I found this on the internet…

I remember reading about the Holy Spirit descending on the Apostles when Christ died and entered into Heaven.

What I posted above in scripture tells that God promises a “Helper” throughout the Old and New Testament.

Love, Sheila

Thank you Randirhoades,

So it wasn’t implicit after all but several prophets mentioned the Father’s promise. This was exactly what I was looking for thank you! 😃
