I recall being taught at an RCIA meeting (or some similar sort of meeting), that God could see the past and the present, and being omnscient knew everything that has ever happened and everything that is currently happening, but that God could not see the future, or at least not see the future exactly, because if he could, that would surely mean that some people are predestined to eternal damnation.
Bzzzz! WRONG ANSWER!!!

God is all knowing and all powerful. Anyone who claims God cannot see the future is spreading heresy. Unless you misunderstood him, I would get some clarification on the answer. If he sticks by his answer you should discuss it with the priest. If the priest is spouting this heresy then consult your Bishop. We should not have wrong teaching in the RCIA program.

How would we know?
Because animals don’t require baptism. They have a material soul, as opposed to a spiritual soul, that perishes with their body when they die. Only human beings have an immortal soul that does not perish upon death of the body.

How would you know that an alien is an animal, especially if he was an intelligent being?

Heres my theory on this which i thinks makes more logical sense

Since time apparently passes at different rates depending on which part of the the universe/multiverse you are…
While one day may pass in one place a thousand years or more may pass in another.

Now the bible says god created everything in 7 days including man
but looking at how long evolution realy took in our time frame …
it would appear these 7 days are 7 GOD days where each day for god is many many thousand/million years for us.

Now a question

How old is GOD?

If 7 days took us to ADAM and Eve (MAN) which we know was millions of years
then god is watching us on fast forward while god remains on normal play.

so this is now 7 days later or are we now on Day 8?
and how old relative to this is god?

We know God can go forward in time and see the future with himself included in that same future. For example, when Jesus said concerning taxation, “give to Caesar what is Caesars” God must of known the long term effects of that passage. My point is everything must of been pre-planned which might mean there could of been a version of reality which Jesus didn’t say that and God saw the long term ramifications of Jesus not saying that and went back in time and had Jesus say that. How do we know we are not living in an alternative reality right now. And if we are living in an alternative reality dosen’t this cheapen our lives a little since we are not the final version God wants?
My heart tells me we are the final version but my brain can’t seem to solve this issue.
The only real answer I can come up with is that since God is perfect God cannot make mistakes (such as having to go back in time to fix something). My only solution to this problem would be that God is timeless and can see both present and future at the same time and being able to read every man’s hearts and minds God can make a determination about the future without having to go back and fix something.
Any thoughts?
God does not play games. Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

What about extraterrestrials? Has anyone written about the theological implications if they exist? Do they need salvation? If so, did Jesus, at various times, come down from heaven and go to their planets to die for their sins, or does his death on earth give them salvation too? If it does, and he never went to their planets, how do they know about Him and the Father?
The late Ray Bradbury wrote a classic science fiction short story about this concept, “The Man.” I believe it’s contained in his anthology “The Illustrated Man.” I recommend it.

Regarding the question of whether aliens would have a soul or be “mere” animals, who knows? It wasn’t considered to be necessary for our salvation for this to be revealed.

An interesting treatment of this in literature is in the James Blish novel, “A Case of Conscience.” In the novel, a Jesuit geologist on a planetary survey team has been one of the first to make contact with an intelligent alien species. They are large, bipedal lizards that resemble dinosaurs, but are intelligent, kindly, and gentle. They evince all the virtues save piety and faith - they have no concept of religion or God. The other secular members of the survey team have no problem with this, but the Spanish priest begins to suspect something more sinister - that the entire planet and all on it was created by Satan as a final blow against the Faith and the destruction of his people. He argues that the entire planet should be placed under quarantine, which the rest of the team of course rejects.

The priest also confesses to the rest of the team that in making this claim, he has excommunicated himself, latae sententiae, in that he has accepted into his soul the gnostic heresy that Satan can create, a power that only God holds in Catholic teaching. The Jesuit has to return home and present himself before the head of his order and the Pope, on the same ship that will bring an embryonic form of the aliens back to Earth to grow to maturity on an unstable and overpopulated earth, and who may itself be the Antichrist. The solution of the priest’s moral dilemma at the end of the novel is fascinating.

It’s an interesting novel that takes Catholic theology seriously (long sections of the novel are essentially a theological debate), and which I also recommend.

For another literary take on the theological implications of extraterrestrial life, check out the 1950s film “Red Planet” with Peter Graves - it’s available on streaming Netflix if you have it. In the near future, a scientist establishes contact with intelligent life on Mars (okay, the science is a little dated) and learns that the Martians believe in God, and Jesus, and have a culture based on living in accordance with His design. This discovery leads to worldwide change - mass conversions and the collapse of the Soviet Union. But is all what it seems? Interesting movie, not too heavy-handed.
