From our understanding of things their must be a cause. (this doesnt have to be the case though) Taking that understanding we accept their must be a cause for everything. The real why is why do we have to know what it is. Why do we have to try and label it as God. Why cannot we just say.
‘I don’t know’
This is the most honoust answer anyone can give. The world works, day to day without having to invoke the idea of a God. Unlike our ancestors, who to explain many everyday occurances had to resort to the idea of a God or Gods controlling the world. We do not have that limitation any more. We are restricted to much bigger questions about how the universe came to be. For joe blogs how the universe came to be is not going to affect weather the sun comes up the next morning. Or if his crops will grow that year. We have got past the point where we have to invoke the idea of a God.
We can just accept the not knowing. And quest to find the truth of how the universe came to be. Its better to be open to all possibilities than to settle on one. That is unsubstantiable.
So Squishy, you truly believe that “I don’t know” created this most exquisite, perfectly organized, intricate and unique universe that we live in?
“I don’t know” is the most dishonest answer we can give!
We “know” many things, first of all we know that “we know”. Self-awareness is not a trait that other creatures like the monkeys or the chimps,or the cats have.
We “know” that each human being has a unique DNA made up of over 3 billion characters, encrypted in 4 letter groups, present from the instant of conception.
We “know” that the universe is nearly infinite, yet each atom, even each sub-atomic particle inside each atom, in that nearly infinite universe, follows a precise set of rules or laws that determine their actions.
We “know” that we didn’t just appear because of a random mistake billions of years ago.
We “know” that a flower is beautiful, that a sunset is breathtaking, that life is a gift of love.
We “know” that a baby is precious.
We “know” what beauty is. We “know” what Truth is!
We “know” that God exists, even though we don’t “know” how or why.
We “know” God loves us, we just don’t “know” why!!
"Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.” Mk 11:22
The Catholic Church reveals the Truth of Jesus Christ in the Catechism; “Faith is man’s response to God, who reveals Himself to man, at the same time bringing man a superabundant light as he searches for the ultimate meaning of his life” (CCC 26).
