Hello all. This is my first post, but I have not been able to find answers to my query thus far, so I thought reaching out on these forums may help me find one.
First, a little background. My wife, Betsy and I were selected by her sister, Sarah, and husband, Matt, to be the Godparents for their first daughter who was to be born. Sarah went to the hospital Thursday evening (7/24) and was set to be induced Friday morning. She was at full term, 41 weeks, 5 days. While at the hospital, and after contractions had started, she suffered a severe placental abruption. She had an emergency c-section, and the baby, Isabelle Clare, was resuscitated for 15 minutes before her heart started. The lack of oxygen took a toll on little Isabelle. She joined our Heavenly Father Saturday morning, in the arms of her mother and surrounded by her family.
Matt, Sarah, and our entire family are clinging to Christ during this difficult time. Through Him we have had the strength to get through last weekend. Please keep Sarah and Matt in your prayers. Little Isabelle was baptized on the spot after her delivery, and was anointed prior to her death.
My question is, as Godparents, does anyone know if there is a traditional gesture or action made prior to, during, or after the funeral ceremony of a passed Godchild?
Thank you in advance for any recommendations or information you may have for us.
